So I am buttering up my wife to make the trip this year.  Its the same weekend of our wedding anniversary and she is always complaining that I never take her anywhere...  Grin  She seems interested in the screenings.  Hope to get her involved in the hobby more.

Three questions:

1.  Is this a place a wife would feel comfortable; considering all the sleazeball dealers there...

2.  How much money do I need to save up so I don't feel like it was a complete waste of time..

3.  Oh is anybody else going to go?  We should do an APF night at one of the restaurants....

Why not T?  I would be interested in going but I am pretty broke at the moment.  My old lady supports my habit, but has no interest in it herself.

I've said it before.  I enjoy collecting, I enjoy the hobby, but from a distance.  At the risk of sounding like a snob (and I don't care if I do) this is not my scene.  I will not criticize people for going, but you won't see me there.

Money just became a real problem last week but I would definitely think about going if I could afford it even though it is in Ohio.  Tongue

What T?  You mean you aren't going to take the missus to Cinevent?  You did tell her it's in Columbus, right?  And she still didn't want to go?

I'm already dragging her to Madison Square Garden to see Bruce in April.

So no Ohio for me.

Can we merge this thread with the other Cinevent thread with all the pics...for the good of the group?

The anti-Cinevent position is funny, I understand it to a point, but most folks here do spend a good portion of their lives on a nerdy poster forum so a half day to a day (which is what I do) at a poster convention seems at least in line with one's interest in the hobby, no?

Its cool to go just to window shop, see all this stuff in person as opposed to scrolling through endless listings online, and if you find something or some things worth picking up, good on you.

Haha, which is why you have less of an issue being in a hotel going through stacks of paper all day.

I just trawled through the other thread today and now feel like I've already attended two Cinevent's! Quality effort by Wonka. But to be devil's advocate it'd be great if this thread stayed as 'Cinevent 2012' then it's easier to find the year you'd like to look back at in the future (does that make any sense!!!!).

1. Is this a place a wife would feel comfortable; considering all the sleazeball dealers there...

I can't (obviously) speak literally about the Cinevent but if it's like any of the film poster events I've been to in the UK (which look exactly the same as the Cinevent photos, trestle tables, loads of old discouloured dealers (Wink) posters) ... uhhumm, cough, cough... let her go shopping and then meet up afterwards! Grin

Seriously tho, I'd love to go Cinevent any year, but think I need a sugar mummy first to pay for the first class air fair!

Are the majority of posters for sale there pretty old?  I stick to 70's and 80's stuff for the most part.

Dude, I just realized your avatar was a GIF; freaked me out...

Haha! Nice. Gif? What gif?

I've never been to a Cinevent, but from what I understand:

A) What I would like most is seeing loads of old, beautiful paper and viewing some old hard to find films (displayed on actual film, not DVD), and
B) What I would hate most is seeing the 'dealer prices' on everything and not ending up buying a single thing.

Please post pics again Wonka so I can at least see all the awesome paper  Wink

I forgot that most of that stuff would be retail... Hey Rich does having a wad of cash help negotiations...

Does bringing crisp $100 bills help in negotiating down dealer prices.  ie.

"Ahhh, I see you have a To Catch A Thief One-Sheet for $1200"  "I happen to have eight crisp $100 bills; will that buy it?"  "No?"  "Should I stop by on Saturday Afternoon?"  "Or if your still here Sunday Morning?"  "Or better yet here is my number; call me if you change your mind. After all I didn't bring these eight crisp $100 bills to just admire them here in beautiful Columbus, OH; I could have done that in Texas."  "Let me know..."
