Thought I would start a "redneck when" thread because of what happened this morning...

You know your a poster junkie when you child refers to wrapping paper as "Christmas Posters" and handles a roll like a baby bird (as taught)...  (my daughter hit me with this one this morning)

You leave a plastic tub on the porch for the mailman on rainy days with a note that says "for any posters" and he understands what you mean (did this Wednesday).

Or the mailman knows you by name and you each know the names of each others children (guilty; but not the new guy...yet)

Your three year old can identify the films Stargate, Black Swan, and Amadeus by the movie poster, even if it is one she hasn't seen (assuming she can't read here; its is actually quite a marvel)

Multiple people at your office bring mini posters to you because they know you collect. (yep; I will one day be a mini poster king)

You dedicate an entire room in your house to your movie poster collection. (afraid this one is true too)

You sell other collections to facilitate your poster collection.

If your wife has ever compared your movie poster habit to another woman.

You skip meals or take lunches to save up for a big buy.

You lose track of how many poster you have and that's not counting the others that you don't think are worth cataloging... (like video posters)

Ok I am running out but feel free to add...

You know you're a movie poster junkie when...

your brain is plagued by voice-overs like this:

SEE! The multitude of over-priced posters on the internet!
SMELL! the ink and paper of far-away countries!
FEEL! The pounding of your own heart as you await the mail!
HEAR! Your own wretched wails when the tube arrives crushed!

You can manually scroll through ALL pre-1980 Ebay original MP auctions TWICE a week , even if there are thousands of pending auctions.  On top of that I scroll through 3000 or so pending auctions at the independent auction sites (EMP, Her, & MPB).  This week there are 2800 pending auctions from the 1970s alone on Ebay.

...you go through each and every item carefully when Bruce opens his latest auction. You don't find anything and leave it at that...

...6 days later you check the same auction again, just in case - and suddenly find half a dozen poster you 'have to bid on'

Seconding the  thumbup

This happens all too often to me also.

I dont think the posters get any better so it must be the need to feed the addiction getting stronger.

I really think there is a "sensory overload" factor at work here. I have had people contact me and SWEAR that an item wasn't in the auction until after a few days, because they had "gone through everything" and had not seen it, and then they looked over everything at the end and there it was!

I think you DO need to go over the items a couple of times to have a much better chance of not missing anything.

Of course everyone should use our Want List feature at https://www.emovieposter.com/members/wantlist.php

Say you collect on Steven Spielberg or Raymond Chandler or giallo or whatever. Create a Want List for each of those, and you will be automatically emailed whenever we have one or more of them at auction, thus GREATLY reducing the chance you will miss something you care about.

You've spent this month's discretionary income on posters PLUS you've spent IN ADVANCE all of next month's discretionary income on posters and owe a bunch of poster dealers money.  Not me of course  Cool
