Which frames do you guys get for your posters from HPF?

Economy, Premium, Archival, Deluxe??

All have UV plexi, is it worth the extra for the artcare board? Which frames do you get from them?

I go with the economy frames. Never had any problems.

Perfect, thats what I was thinking.
I was looking at the price difference, I didn't notice the only difference was pretty much the artcare backing.
So far I am now thinking Economy too for now, was thinking archival at first.

I also have never had a problem with the economy. I have bought over twenty economy frames but I have paid extra on all but the first two to get the non glare plexi. I like them better that way but I dont know if its worth it to everyone.

I also have a few with the better foam core that I got for the older posters.

You can always upgrade the plexi or the backing later if you want.

Zorba, when you say older, what age is older?
For example, I am just framing some 1980's and newer posters, thats why I can't decide on which frames to get?
I am thinking economy is the way to go for me for now? not sure?

You have any pictures with the economy frames?

I am currently working on my basement where I will displaying most of my posters. I snapped a few shots, all frames pictured are from HPF and are economy frames. I tend to collect 80's era stuff as well. I can tell you that I had a ROTLD one sheet in a cardboard backed generic frame for almost 10 years and did not have any issues with rotting or deterioration. Humidity is something to REALLY watch though. I have a dehumidifier running 24/7 in my basement.

I meant older is as in the paper used. Some early seventies and everything before. I really dont think modern posters need the acid free board at least not for many years.
I rotate most of my posters every few months so the backing is even less important.

I was going to post more pics but thankfully CJ beat me to it. Here is what used to be My Bond Wall last year. All economy and four different sizes. The YOLT and The RR Dr NO B2 have the better backing.

Thanks Neo! Not sure about doubling up. I am currently debating that one. I have a French one panel to frame and a few subways, so the layout is gonna take a little planning.

Your set up is looking great, Conor. Something about several displayed posters that is awe inspiring. Totally diverse collection you have that adds to the coolness. Please start a thread in in the collection thread. Mine is still a work in progress, but I like seeing the pics as I go along.

I hear ya, CJ. That may be one of the most difficult decisions you'll ever have to make.

Personally, I am partial to the single row of one sheets, as double row is a little bit of "awesome overload", and because it's more like the way I've always seen them outside theaters, but then again when one has so much paper that is deserving of being displayed, double row is good in that sense. The space itself also dictates what goes where, of course, as I have a few walls where an insert frame is the only size that fits, or another where a 40x60 frame fits perfectly. For my one subway poster, I put it in an area that is in the farthest corner from viewing, as it's the largest in my humble collection displayed. Sometimes it's impossible to know how they'll look until they're displayed (at least in my case), and then they can be rearranged to perfection. Good luck.

Its Ph balanced instead of alkaline treated .. aka .. Economy has the "acid free" foam core you can buy at any hobby/frame shop .. While the alkaline treated is on the base side of the Ph scale and can absorb acids that may be present in the paper helping to keep the paper from deteriorating from acid damage.

Thats what I go with .. It would have to be an old/valuable poster before Id worry about the acid in the paper I mean if you KNOW for a fact that you have a poster that will be worth thousands of dollars one day then by all means spend the extra $30 on artcare .. but unfortunately most of our posters will never fall into that category .. So acid free does the job with out causing more harm like card board or wood pulp products that are high in acids ..

$50 for a frame is actually pretty good. You wont find anything with good plexi any cheaper.

If you really want to spend less you can probably get metal tension frames cut to size from eBay. Then cut your own backing and plexi. However, if you keep track of your time and effort I'm sure its still cheaper to go with HPF.

Ohh the shipping was $190 .. not the total .. I misunderstood. Where is it you live ? Di you email Sue and ask about some frames? But for the quality, and the archival qualities you cant beat it .. It just depends if you want something that is good to hang something for a month or something to protect the poster long term.

I am in Canada.
Ya I'm emailing with her back and forth.

So it does average out to $110 for an economy frame. So I want to confirm, are they (the ECONOMY frames) going to be a lot superior to those crappy Michaels frames.
I do need it to be stored in there long term too.
