Do you really charge $39.75 to the U.K.?

I'm not answering for Dave, but just so you know this is likely very close to actual shipping when using Express Mail to the UK for about a 2 or 3 pound package.

This is the only method of shipment I use for shipping to anywhere in UK / Europe.  To do otherwise is fraught with peril and delay.

I must be really out of touch, it's been several months since I bought from the States. The last item only cost around $15 for Global priority. I recieved the package in 8 days, which is faster than most U.K. sellers send theirs.

Our problem over here is, if the cost is over $35 we have to pay 10% import duty, plus V.A.T. at 17.5%, and a £8 handling charge. which is why I don't buy as much from the U.S. as I used too. A lot of dealers in the U.S. refuse to just put $30 on the customs form if the item is say $100, as the item is not insured for the right amout. So unfortunately we have to take the extra cost into the item we are buying.

Either a) it was shipped in a flat rate box or b) the seller subsidized the shipping cost.

I just ran a quote (you can do this yourself on usps.com) for an 8 oz package, which is far under any tube I've ever shipped.  Global Int'l Priority would be $28.00. And, let's see... for a standard tube I would actually ship at 1 pound 8 oz, the rate would be $31.05.  That's for a small sturdy tube appropriate for no bigger than a Japanese B2.

There are no flat rate tubes.

And the reason some people refuse to underdeclare is because the insurance amount must be the declared amount or less.  So if someone in the UK wants to avoid customs charges, this places the additional burden of insurance risk onto the seller.  Needless to say, given worldwide post office behavior this is unattractive for appropriately cautious sellers.

Thanks everyone for responding....I didn't even know there was a question here until now.

Unfortunately the shipping rates keep going up and there is nothing anyone can do about it!!

We do offer the option of $25.75 for Priority Mail instead of Express, and we usually lose money on those shipments!!

oh......and our no reserve auctions end today!!!
