Just need to rant.

Why sell an excellent condition poster, ship in a toilet roll class tube, across country or around the world, so the buyer ends up with a poor condition poster in a twisted, distorted cardboard mess of so called protection? The heart sinks every time. And when you finally view that poster for the first time. Fuck, it looks like I slept with it last night!

This happens way too often to us collectors. It sickens me every time. I haven't the heart to photograph them anymore.

Thoughtless Idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rant over. Gutted...............again.

Id just try to avoid any seller that looks like they are not a collector and/or havent sold posters before (like check ebay feedback and see if theyve sold multiple posters) and if it looks like someone that may have just came across one poster and hasnt ever dealt with shipping Id talk to them before buying asking how they plan to ship it and offer the rule of "if you can squeeze the tube with one hand and it buckles its not strong enough" and gently remind them that if anything happens you will expect a full refund of purchase price and shipping costs .. that may prompt them to protect themselves a little more with a tougher tube and/or insurance .. Id say a lot of thee issues are just ignorant sellers .. they dont realize how rough shipping can be upon poster tubes .. and want to make as much money as possible so when they see the $1.99 tube at the post office they think thats great and cheap! Some are also disillusioned that once its shipped its not their problem. These are the people that need the gentile reminder that paypal will side with the buyer 99% of the time on lost/damaged merchandise.

I personally reuse a lot of tubes, just because I buy a lot so I have a ton of quality yazoo tubes just laying around and I only ship USPS priority with insurance! Shipping priority changes the way they travel and shortens the trip time so I speculate that there is less time for it to be damaged. That and once again speculate that they treat insured packages slightly different as well. The one downfall to my strict shipping is international can cost a lot !! I sent a poster to France priority and insured for like $130 and it cost me nearly $40 to ship. So shipping prices can be daunting and we just need to keep a watchful eye out for the inexperienced and help guide them to the correct path .. and if it is a poster worth having maybe offer a bit more money for shipping to ensure they sent it priority or buy a proper tube. Also if it will fit tell them to pick up a postal triangle tube and put the tube in that box to ship .. LOL .. make sure they know they still need a regular tube inside the triangle tube .. Ive gotten just a poster in that triangle box before .. the edge damage didnt make me too happy Tongue

So in short I think the only way to battle this is education and if its something we feel its worth buying then we need to take the time to try and help educate the seller if after that they still screw up then get your money back and send them the shittiest email possible !! Smiley

Was once given a great bit of advice about packing.
When in doubt on the sellers packing ability, send them details of how you would like it to be packed before you pay.
If they aren't happy to receive such emails, transaction should end right there.

Although I've been sending posters here and there for a while now, and like to think I know how to pack, I never get offended if someone sends me an email saying can you please pack like this...blah blah blah.  I know how much of a pain in the arse it is to get a ruined poster in the mail.

Hi ive been packing posters in PVC tubes with 100% sucess thus far but ive had one negitive comment i do not give this any credance though as the posters go to him as advertised in the exact same condittion as i shiped them to them i think it came down to the fact it costs a bit more than a cardbord tube and the weight is incresed as well

with ZERO damage during shipping i think its the cats ass in ways of shipping them !!!!!!

Dude, Ricks packing was way awesome.  It took a hammer and a hack saw to get the posters out!  No damage at all....

Badly packed posters are the worst thing we have to put up with in this hobby, VERY closely followed by the inept postal services we have to endure. A friend of mine has a poster of mine as we sent two to his house. It's been there for 3 months as I'm going to pick it up next time I'm through, he was going to post it on, but I don't want to chance the "Royal Mail" with it...

You should keep taking photos of them, I do as I'm going to send an email to the R.M. full of damaged posters, and see what they say...

Don't forget it takes two to damage a poster, the Pilock who packaged it, and the Lazy Tosser who works for the postal service, and doesn't give a...........

Happened to me just the other day.  Got a package delivered by the BELOVED US Postal Service.  They left it on my front walkway during a torrential downpour.  The package had about 20 vintage stills in there and although they were soaked to the core, I was luckily able to peel them apart and dry them out.  Some curling from the drying process, but no emulsion damage or water stains!  They are now in between the pages of a heavy book flattening out.
