Superman Returns, I have to say is the worst comic based film ever created, does not follow the mythology of the character, and spirals the franchise directly into the ground. Besides, everyone knows if Clark and Lois were ever be together he would blow her insides out!

Larry Niven did a very humorous essay on this back in the '70s.  I found a copy online here:

Coming back to this thread, I'd also like to throw in that I completely disagree on the inclusion of Psycho and Tron Legacy on the "Good List". Particularly Psycho, which is viewed pretty unanimously as one of the biggest failed experiments in modern filmography. Even by the director.

You didn't like Tron Legacy but you LOVED Superman Returns? Holy crap man, your movie barometer is busted!

I could talk just as much about Tron Legacy as Superman Returns. Only negatively.

Fright Night was much better than expected.

And let's just settle it - Tron Legacy and Superman Returns both blew serious chunks...

I'd rather: Expectations predetermine one's final perception.

I love Superman Returns. I'll defend any argument you make. But if you don't have one other than "Superman Returns sucked lolololololololol" then pipe down, pipsqueaks.

I also don't like Tron: Legacy even a little bit. But if you told me you loved it I'd ask you why rather than tell you you're wrong.

Wise beyond your years.
Life is too short to be so negative.

No wrong or right in topics as subjective as taste in film.

I'd rather: Expectations predetermine one's final perception.

Only for the unenlightened.  I had generally low expectations for Apes and Fright, primarily due to piss-poor trailers, and they turned out to be good films.  I also had low expectations for Change Up, Thor, Horrible Bosses and, heck, most of the rest of the summer releases and, with the exception of Colin Farrell's supporting role in HB, they weren't worth wasting my time.

I find it easier to maintain rather low expectations, rather than Geek out over the latest flavor of the month.  True perspective comes with age for all of us.

I was just trying to find some common ground...  Kiss

Truthfully, I wouldn't waste my time trying to de-geek your inexplicable love affair.  It's an exercise in futility, as the harder I push the more entrenched you'd become.  It's far better to let you come around on your own...

So let's focus on those who seriously believe "Transformers" is one of the year's best films. Are these people wrong? Yes. They are wrong. I am fond of the story I tell about Gene Siskel. When a so-called film critic defended a questionable review by saying, "after all, it's opinion," Gene told him: "There is a point when a personal opinion shades off into an error of fact. When you say 'The Valachi Papers' is a better film than 'The Godfather,' you are wrong." Quite true. We should respect differing opinions up to certain point, and then it's time for the wise to blow the whistle. Sir, not only do I differ with what you say, but I would certainly not fight to the death for your right to say it. Not me. You have to pick your fights.

Cool.  Cool

I agree that anyone that thinks the Valachi Papers is better than the Godfather is wrong...BUT ...That is clearly an opinion. It is not nor ever will it be a statement of fact.

That quote is just one more opinion about other peoples opinions. There is nothing scientific happening at all.

There is always opinion.  If I say the Valachi Papers is better than the Godfather, than it is to me. Your opinion is irrelevant to my enjoyment.
BTW, I prefer a different quote here:

Now the world don't march
To the beat of just one drum.
What might be right for you
May not be right for some...
