Okay, as some of you know, I am really new to this hobby.  As a matter of fact, about six weeks of new.  My wife has been out of town for this entire period, until this past weekend.

I confessed my new hobby to her on the way back from the airport.  I really had no choice since I had a stack of unrolled posters on the dining room table.  She really did not blink an eye.  But I knew she was thinking like posters were like a 10-20 dollar purchase. She did not complain about the mess in the dining room, and I promised I would have the posters out in two weeks.

But then the evening came around.  She saw some of the coffee table poster books I had bought.  At first, I was excited that she was showing an interest.  Then she asked about buying a Mickey Mouse poster in the Top 100 movie poster book.  I showed her that it last sold for $22,000. Big mistake on my part.  The I started to get the fifth degree about how much had I actually spent so far.   Embarrassed

But then things turned my way.  She saw the Heritage catalog, and asked me if I had bought the Wasp Woman poster, because she liked it very much.  I told her I did not buy it, but it let me know that she was okay with the money.  Heritage had a pre-auction estimate of like 2-3K on it.

So, I think I am okay on the bigger ticket items, I just probably should make sure she likes it before I buy it.

Don't kid yourself, Brian.  She has some $2k purse or pair of shoes she has been eyeing and wants some leverage.

You are a very wise man, indeed you are. She was talking about upgrading her car, yesterday.  I just know the poster stuff will come up eventually.  On a bad day, I hear from her that I care more about the dog than I do her.  Sounds like a country song.... Grin

note to married collectors.. when you buy posters, always give her some cash.
however keep in mind females collectors like Juli are all set and don't have to pony any money to him.
we're used to women spending whatever they want whenever they want without any input from us.
shoes however are the usual expectation

Whenever a surprise poster showed up at our house, it was always because Cindy bought it, not me. Smiley

Have yet to actually hang any of the thirty without prior approval. Not my wife but she lives here and she "lets" me to a point.

After an auction that she knows Im watching/maybe bidding she always walks in after and asks...What did WE get?....We? what? huh? Sure why not  Smiley

Yes cars would take me to shoes (if I were one of those women) if they were allowed to be driven and not just looked at and kept shiny and new and perty...cause lawd fordbid if they should actually be used for what they were intended!

I must admit, your car boot comment made me laugh...cause we all know it's TRUE Cheesy

Gosh, I hope I remember that one.  Of course it would only dig my hole deeper, but it would make a great story to tell the guys.

Guys, you need to get her involved.

This is so true...  Well for me anyway. If we travel to buy posters, 9 times out of 10 Yvonne will help with beating down the price. If we go to auctions, she likes to do the bidding. If I'm internet buying, she's always saying go a bit more on price. If she spots a poster she likes we'll bid on that.
Even the cars, I sold my Evo last year and she was straight in with lets buy something classic and speedy. So we bought an RS 2000 Mk2, which she drives more than me. And don't get me mixed up with the shinny arse's, I buy a rally car to thrash, and it gets plenty of it. "Drive it like you hate it" is the only way.
I think I'm just lucky we have very similar interests..... Most of the time. Wink

Those are some nice rally rides.  Do you compete?

I used to compete here in the US, but I am getting older (62).  These days I will do road regularity type events and american style rallycross (autocross on dirt) in an RSX Type S.  Sill work and organize some though.

I used to compete, have won several events in years gone by, but have not done any in the last 10/12 years. I'm half way through turning a Mk1 Mexico into a full group 4 spec car. I'm just pushed for time at the moment, seem to be doing more on the house than in the Garage.
I won't be going back into stage rallying the cost stops my poster buying  Wink, so I'll just be doing time trials, and track days which are much cheaper, but still great fun.
