It could, but Evil Dead it`s such a classic that a remake that does not suck ass is a hard-to-achieve goal.
I love Raimi, and if it happens, I`m happy a fellow south american is directing. If you haven`t seen Alvarez short film that got him a contract with Raimi, see it.

I'm confused though...wasn't THE EVIL DEAD already re-made? 
It was called EVIL DEAD 2.
