You Ari, are the only one in the whole world I like that eats offal, misses his dead rat carcasses, draws women on walls with skin peeling off of them and keeps a meat cleaver by his bed.

I am desperately looking for a Steven Spielberg signed letter (especially with Schindler's List content). If you have one I will make you an offer you can't refuse.

Tough call, but had to take Raiders over E.T.

Both perfect films.

I had a three way tie but was forced to pick one. After much anguish and a series of coin flips I took Saving Private Ryan over Jaws and Raiders.

Same three for me Zorba, but Jaws just pips it. It was a phenomenon at the time of it's release, and is one of only a handful of films ever made that can claim this.

I voted Jaws but Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan are just as good. Jaws just holds a special place in my heart as I watched it countless time with my father growing up.

To me, CE3K is his best film, ET is the one I've seen the most (more than 10 times in the theaters when it came out), and then Jaws, Schindler's List and ToD (yes, over Raiders; I enjoyed this wild ride so much as a teenager.)  Big fan of Ryan's first 20 minutes, not so much of the rest.  Loved The Color Purple, Empire of the Sun, Munich and Jurassic Park.

His biggest misses: Hook, The Terminal and of course, Indy 4 ( puke) which I attribute more to Lucas than Spielberg.  I heard so many stories from the shoot.

Empire of the Sun;  it was subtle but substantial; and he pulled it off through the eyes of a child.  The innocence of the beginning and the rapid transformation to self survival changed me.  Plus this film in many ways places perspective that there are two sides to everything.  The Japanese boy crying when he couldn't go off and die for his country was very emotional for me.  He made me feel for the enemy; that is the sign of a good film.

The film I chose has a sentimental attachment.
A few of the other movies in this list are better, I admit, but based on the above statement I had to go with Jurassic Park.

Best,

I think they all bring something different to the table and depending on when we saw them (how old we were) makes a difference as well .. So I abstain from picking a best .. However Indy4 .... Did you put that on the list just so we could bash it !? Tongue

I love many movies on the list, but chose SPR as my fave.  I've seen that movie countless times and will watch it any time it airs.  The only other Spielberg movie I can say that about is JAWS

Sorry for reviving a 2 month old thread but I've been on a major Spielberg kick lately. Just re-watched most of his films the past couple of weeks.

My top 5:

1. Raiders
2. E.T.
3. Jaws
4. Close Encounters
5. Jurassic Park
