Something I've wanted to ask for a while.

In general, with the exception of Argentina (and that's only because some of you guys collect it), Spanish language paper doesn't seem remotely as collectable as paper from any other countries in the world.  Whether it's from Spain, Mexico or any other countries, really, there seems to be rejection from collectors.

Am I wrong?

I think you`re right about that certain rejection of spanish language paper, and I don`t know the exact reason . I can understand the lack of interest in posters that use the same art than their country of origin posters, but there`s a lot of great stuff produced in some of those countries (More in Mexico and Spain than in Argentina) but it seems to be not that desirable, except those for cult films and the like (Dario Argento, Fulci, Jess Franco, Hammer, etc.)

To an extent, yes. Maybe not as mainstream as those from other countries, but they can command a premium and are collectible.

If you look at the Mexican posters, created by artist Ernesto Cabral, for example, many of his sell for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

The Spanish posters generally aren't as exceptional as Italian and French posters.  But I do have one Spanish language poster, the superb Spanish one sheet for Casino Royale:

These are all fine pieces, although I still suspect most collectors would be attracted to other countries' paper first.  I think it may have something to do with the language, which to some, is not as distinguished as Italian, French, Japanese or Eastern European.  I know if I was given a choice between a Spanish poster or a Czech poster of the exact same design and size, I'd probably get the Czech first.

There is a stigma that I'm trying to pinpoint.

I confuse easily. Are we talking about posters from Spain or posters using the Spanish language?

The not inexpensive lobby card for the 1931 Spanish version of Dracula.  (Has a Spanish one sheet ever been found for this?)

yeah, theres an image posted on NS4.

I love spanish posters, especially for spanish films (Jesus Franco is a favourite of mine)and the artist Jano is great.

And I love heralds (T will hate them) but they are small and affordable ways of getting the art, I put them in little frames and sit on shelves etc. Nice reference material to see what the 1 Sheets look like.

AND mexican 1 sheets can have great art

You Ari, are the only one in the whole world I like that eats offal, misses his dead rat carcasses, draws women on walls with skin peeling off of them and keeps a meat cleaver by his bed.

Not a spanish, but an argentinean 1sh, with no security if it dates from the original 1931 release or a later 30`s rerelease:

This thread might actually be good at promoting Spanish art.  Some of Ari's posters (not the heralds!) are great, especially Doctor Orloff.

The Spanish poster for Godzilla is quite desirable (image borrowed from Bruce, as I'm not at home to post mine)

I love Spanish-language posters whether they are from Argentina, Mexico or Spain itself.
The only drawback for collectors: poor paper quality.
Just recently, that has changed for the better, but many of the older posters are thin, brittle and lack the vibrancy of color a higher grade of paper would provide.

Here are a few of the many I am proud to own...

The following are not my pics...I really need to shoot mine, especially THE TERMINATOR, which is still my favorite poster for the film and in far better condition than this borrowed image...

Absolutely true Ted! Not sure about spanish posters, but mexican and argentinean ones get yellow and brittle easily. I have argentinean posters from the 70s that look like they were printed in the 30s...

Orfanato looks great, didn`t knew the image!

Just like Ari, I am a big fan of Spanish posters! In fact, we first got in touch when I bought the spanish LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN from him many years ago!

Here are a few from my collection, including LIZARD and a bunch of Jess Franco!

And don't even get me started on Mexican posters - WOW!
