Cataloging my rolled stuff and ran across two DS copies of Version A of The Thin Red Line (TRL).  Remembered Bruce had auctioned off a TRL within the year so I checked out the results.  His auction was for Style B.  It seems Style B is more prevalent.  The only Style A that went off was only in Good condition and at a much lower price.  I would tend to think the two are pretty much equal in value.  Style A however does have John Travolta's name as Style B omits it.

Wonder why they would dedicate an entire alternate version just for Travolta's name?  Any input on value or the back story between the two would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Charlie

I cant say with any certainty but the "A" version with John's name on it looks like an INTL poster, The only reason I say that is because it lacks the US Ratings box

Hey, Charlie, per Phil Edwards, one of the poster gurus at Ari's NSFGE,

"Yes, we have one of the recalled one sheets of THIN RED LINE that has Travolta's name on it. At the time I heard it was upon Travolta's request due to a fear of over-exposure with other films coming out around the time of TTRL, and his desire that he not be seen as a star of a film in which he has a relatively small role.

Certainly in Australia, the version shown still had Travolta's brief scene intact."

I checked and the two I have and both do not have the ratings boxes.  However, I have the original tube they were shipped in to be displayed in a theater in Texas.  Is it common to display an international version in domestic theaters?

I read the thread and that does make sense.  Maybe I should move my post over to the recalled posters thread.   Smiley  Dead sure it was sent for display in the US...

I guess that I'll keep posting this... (from the Recall thread)

This goes a little off-topic, but is a good thing to point out here.  Just because a poster doesn't have a ratings box or NSS does not make it an international version.  Usually, it just means that the film hasn't been rated by the MPAA by the time the posters get printed.

So for a standard Adv/Regular campaign, 99%+ of the time you will have some combination of the following:
1. Adv (no rating), Reg (rating) - the standard approach
2. Adv (rating), Reg (rating) - the MPAA got their grubby mitts on the flick well before release
3. Adv (no rating), Reg (no rating), Reg (rating) - a common occurrence for bigger pictures, meaning that the MPAA got the pic at the last minute (Indy Jones and the Chrystal Skull was like this)
4. Adv (no rating), Adv (rating), Reg (rating) - somewhat unusual in that the studios would normally just wait until printing the regular to add the rating, but if they are fixing anything else or printing another run on the poster they might as well throw it on.

All of these posters are U.S. posters and not 'internationals'.

The company/studio credits can be helpful in determining a true 'international'.  Though, I would guess that, at times, the they are indistinguishable.
