When I started (1986), it was a cryptic classified ad that read: "If you know the difference between Ingrid and Ingmar Bergman and can name the Magnificent Seven, we want to talk to you."
Seriously.
That's all that the ad said.
Luckily, I landed the job and it was a national gig.
But the world has changed a lot since then...
For someone starting out in the business, the first thing you need are samples.
Start a blog and start reviewing movies.
You have to write and prove that you can do it.
A blog will showcase your work and you can send the link to prospective employers.
Use social media to get your blog as much exposure as possible.
Network, network and network some more.
Before you know it, you'll have a library of sample reviews and a following.
Then leverage it all for a job.
