Here is a link to my little collection. Just a small one but that is because I am just beginning. Personally I do not think it is to bad. What are your thoughts everyone?

If you want my brutally honest opinion it's - you need more art and less photo  Wink

Over posters like this:

It's all personal preference of course...

Harsh, and a little bit unnecessary, Chris.  We all started somewhere.  I personally think it's a very nice beginning.

Thierry, he asked for opinions and I gave my honest synopsis.

No 'harshness' was meant in the slightest...perhaps just opening some eyes to other forms of movie paper advertising is all.

I think I was clear  Kiss

I like those as well. And it is a start and eventually I will get better looking posters (art). It will take time but I will get there. I am sure most of you have been in this area of collecting for awhile now. I am new to this and have only been doing this for about a month now. So to me it is not a bad start at all. I am looking into collecting older posters as well. I am going more for the horror type and maybe quads. I really like how the quads look.

I did not take it personal Chris. I know it is not the greatest collection but it is a start. I am wanting to collect posters like you posted. I like the Indiana Jones poster. I am looking into collecting older horror posters and maybe some quads. I have noticed the quads seem to have more art work on them and that I like.

There are some really fabulous quads out there.  Of course (usually) the more striking a poster is (of any size or nationality) the more $$$ it will take  Cry

Nice job Randy! Dont pay Chris no mind .. some people just dont appreciate our hyper-modern taste .. I personally would take the "Just go with it" poster over that "Dark Corner" any day of the week. Tongue I know a lot of other members here would want to crucify me for saying that but its true.

A lot of this hobby and our taste play off of nostalgia and remembering the movies from when we were kids .. I have like 3 different posters for Monster Squad, now was that a cinematic achievement ??  Not in the least and if I had never seen it as a kid and watched it for the first time today Id probably say its crap, but I did see it as a kid and loved it then! So I hold on to those feelings and memories with these posters of this ridiculous film Smiley

My main focus has always been modern posters (especially quads in the beginning) with a few classics sprinkled in .. LOL .. Remembering T's infamous trash pile, Im sure more than half of my collection would have been in that pile had T been the owner. But Its my collection and I love it for what it is! Smiley

So bottom line, collect what you like and forget the rest of these old wind bags that preach hate Tongue Cheesy

Your collection is fine.  I really like your Pulp Fiction, River Runs Through It, and Schindler's List. Most of us started off just like you.  I think over time you'll come to appreciate your artistic, creative, and illustrated posters and stop collecting basic photo montage posters like Click and Just Go With It.  For now be sure to consider pre-1990 posters and non-US posters when you're perusing through Ebay and the like.

I know I did. Still do. I still have yet to discriminate by decade, world war or century.

Collect what you like...fark whether it is art or photo.
You're the one that has to pay for it, store it or look at it.
You're the only one that counts in my book...if you like it, it's perfect for you collection Smiley

Some of them I got for free so I will not complain lol and others were fairly cheap. I just added a few more to my collection. Recently purchased a Joe Kidd insert which is on its way and an Explorers poster. I will have to post pics of them when I get them.

Horror Quads...........Oooooooooh, Not more competition......

Seriously, you seem very wise in your choice's. There are some Fantastic Quads out there, mind I am bias as being from the U.K. this is what I mostly collect.
As said the one golden rule is only buy what you like, and don't be bothered what anyone else thinks. If they like it, good. If not, they can go take a flying f.....

Above all, Enjoy....

In my mind, we collect specific posters for four reasons.

1. To preserve memories of a movie we liked.
2. The artwork of the poster pleases us.
3. The poster is rare/desirable.
4. The movie is iconic/landmark.

Personally, my choices are dominated by #1 and 2.  I have no desire to collect a crappy poster, no matter how iconic the movie is.  And I agree that crappy is individual taste.

So ignore anyone else's opinion of your posters.  You (and your family) are all you need to please.

I like it. I picked it up for 5 bucks. The person worked at a theater and was the manager for many years and had a bunch of posters which I purchased for cheap. I think it is a great start since I am new to all of this. My collection will continue to grow over time.
