Ok, so I have been trying to clear a pile here and there lately and I pulled a couple posters off the top of my file cabinet last night and unroll this.

Imagine how stunned I was as I have bid on this poster probably 4 times in the last year and a half forgetting I already owned the damn thing.

Been there done that. Now my website helps me make sure I don't do that anymore unless I intentionally want a 2nd copy.

Yup, done that, except that I ended up buying/winning it.  Sometimes I can justify it as an upgrade, but other times it's just a slap the forehead moment

there is one poster I seem to have bought myself 4 times....

Still not a 100% foolproof approach…at least for me  Tongue  I have my most important comics inventoried in a list, and I've still bought duplicates.  The list is long and sometimes I miss something.  God I hate getting older

Chad
and I wasn't even talking about:
1) buying another because mine isn't handy and I think this one is nicer (I Walk Alone) only to find my original holding is nice enough

or

2) "Oh damn that price is too ferqin low.. I need to bid a similarly high price like I did last time so I can support the price of my original purchase....."

I have bid on posters that I already had, and I had 90% of my collection logged on my computer with release dates, condition, etc. It only works if you check it before you bid!

Since moving I picked up a virus and lost all the info, so have to start again.......I won't swear, but it is a twat.

I also have my collection online, for easy reference, though as I don't have many posters I can remember what I have and the condition pretty easily, but nice to have the reference handy from anywhere there is a net connection.

That does sound like it sux. My simple tips (which most may be already aware):
- store all your documents on a seperate partition or hard disk to your operating system. Your operating system should be on its own dedicated partition or disk so if it gets corrupted and not bootable you don't lose your docs/files
- set an incrementable backup system to run over night. I think most external drives come with this software thrown in.
- make another set of regular backups and store them offsite.

They have USB flash drives these days that are as big as 32GB, which should be more than enough to back-up important documents and images.
