Hi Eric, When the first Argentinean one sold, it was the only known large poster, right?  Since then three more large posters have come to public sale, including this one.  I was wondering, too, if it would sell.  Very cool image, though I've alway been concerned if a print of the movie is found would it hold up?  If it didn't hold up, how would that effect auction demand?  Of course there is always vice versa as well, eh?  Okie

Makes you wonder, for sure, okie. Ive read some reviews of LAM, from even back in the day, where the critics werent kind to it, saying it was a bit of a potboiler and slow/corny in spots. I think the mystique lies in the dual role of Chaney, especially when, in the movie, he dresses as this vampire character, in order to solve a murder (i think it was).

And to see that fave/character/makeup in action, so to speak, rather than just as still shots.

If a copy was ever found, I think people would be very happy to know that one of the holy grails of the lst, silent cinema had been found. And, who knows... finding a print and having it out in the public, could drive material like this Arg OS price higher? or could have the opp. effect.

Would be interesting to see, and know, in the least case.

That reminds me a lot of Hergé.  Really cool.

One thing is for certain if anyone has Casablanca paper they have been holding and looking for the right to sell/consign
NOW is the time to do so given all the results over the past year or so.

Today this re-release daybill sold for $20,000 with BP or MORE THAN what the much better original release has sold for recently (WTF!).
I mean I know Bogie's bright red lipstick and disembodied Bergman are enticing but come on...

This used to be a sub-$1,000 alternative to the original - is this just an anomalous result?  Who the hell knows anymore...

Harry, that Filibus Italian 2P is fantastic, even better than the other poster for that movie you recently bought at EM.

Extremely jealous of the Filibi posters, would love to have either one were I still in acquisition mode.

The whole Casablanca thing baffles me as well. Obviously it's an iconic movie but the recent run on posters makes me think there's a swinging dick contest between (at least) two people with more money than brains.

HA!  Just insane.

Casino Royale Teaser UK Quad - $454
Casino Royale Main UK Quad - $657
From Russia US lobby card set - just $430!  This just doesn't correlate to the above prices.
Living Daylights Teaser UK quad - $1000.  FFS!

Wouldn't have mind picking up one of the double lot of quads, but sheesh, ridiculously stupid $ for something so recent.

Jeff, there is much hype surrounding LAM because it is a lost Lon Chaney film with intriguing screen shots.  As you noted, the contemporary reviews were not good, and its "remake" -- "Mark of the Vampire" -- was average.  I tend to think that when the film sees the light of day, and after the excitement of the discover wears off and people realize that it is not that great of a film, the high prices paid for LAM paper will never be recovered.

Exactly, Matthew. The fact that the last known prints of LAM have now been gone so many decades only adds to the allure. And withe only the great stills to go by, everyone is chomping at the bit, hoping a print (or even a reel) might be uncovered or discovered in some archive somewhere.

Here's hoping, whether it be good, lousy or something in between.  prayer.gif

First time in my life I was completely shut out at Heritage. Bid on 30+ items and didn't win a single thing.

Won 6, lost 20, including one that I really wanted and should have won but lost track of time.

Won items for specific sub collections of mine, Bond, Eastwood, Lollobrigida and Monroe (which I just started).

I got two today on HA--one I really wanted and one I already have (but can NOT find anywhere). I'll post them soon in my thread. Also, did anyone follow the Potter & Potter? ARGH! I was close on their INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE (argh!), but THOUGHT I won their Italian DINOSAURUS. I was the first bid at $100. When i got home from work I see there was a second bid...also for $100 and that person apparently WON it. How is that possible? Here is the link: http://auctions.potterauctions.com/LotDetail.aspx?inventoryid=7903. I sent them a note of inquiry about this, but have heard nothing back thus far.

A year ago I predicted on this forum the HP Azkaban lenticular would be a $10,000 poster in 10 years. How wrong I was.

All great pickups, chapsticks!

Winner IMO:

Intriguing, right?

As for me I recouped this JR "red dress" Killian, disapproved by studio bc JR wore pink dress in movie. Killian later sold 250-500 "pink dress" versions. I bought my first "red dress" directly from a former Killian salesman, so got correct 411:
