So was it the printer that put "Printed in Belgium" vs. "Imprime en Belgique" or was the exact repro requester just an idiot?

The guy wanted "Imprime en Belgique" but the printer refused (surely because he knew people would be cheated) but agreed to put "Printed in Belgium" in English (and since they WERE printed there, that is no lie, although they were printed decades later).

Thanks Bruce - good on the printer

I remember this being the first lesson of Belgian posters... Never heard the background story; interesting stuff.

I was able to find the ID of the buyer and just wrote him a message thru ebay, explaining what he had purchased. I also included a url link to a supersize image of an authentic poster sold by Bruce, as well.

I told him that his poster/auction had come up in discussion on this forum and that it was a worthless reproduction. I also told the buyer that several messages had been sent to the seller from various members explaining that he had sold a cheap repro and that none of us had gotten any kind of response.

Lastly, I said that he needs to demand his money back.

I hope this buyer writes me back. I will keep the board updated.

If any others also want to write this buyer, and also alert him to the fact that he bought a worthless repro, (strength/validity in numbers) his info is here:

Good work Jeff. Let us all know what the buyer says if he replies. I am curious to know what the buyer has to say.

I think he or she would be MORE upset, had they learned about this, say 4 months from now, when there was no recourse or remedy. At least now, he/she wont be stuck with a fake and out 200.00 (if they so choose to act and demand their $ back, that is).   ;)

UPDATE: The buyer messaged me and is returning it. They did not know it was a reproduction until after the purchase. The buyer said that they were buying as a gift for their dad. The buyer also said they sell vintage items but not movie posters so did not know how to tell if it was authentic. But overall it is good that the buyer is going to return it.

Good to know the buyer read the info and is going to take action and get his $$ back.

Here is the buyers response to my message to him
"Thank you for telling me, I did find out after I purchased it that its a later reprint from 80-90s and will be returning it. I sell vintage posters and Im not too familiar with movie posters and was going to buy this for my dads collection but had a dealer get back to me later about it and basically like you said the Printed in Belgium. Thank you"

Good teamwork gents and I've done my part by adding an authentication on MPC here:

Please advise of any corrections needed.

Good on you Mel, though the resolution of the originals pics are blurry. You can take much sharper ones from my site if you like

Good job! But you should make it clear there are LOTS of other titles that were reprinted, NOT just Forbidden Planet.

Maybe you can add to your site somewhere a section that says something like "CONSIDERING BUYING BELGIAN POSTERS? You need to know THIS first!".

That would go a long way towards stopping others from getting ripped off.

Thanks for feedback.

(1) Added special section warning about Belgian "printed in Belgium" posters (near the bottom):

http://moviepostercollectors.com/Authentications.html

(2) Used Steve's close-up shots of corners of FB:

Maybe put up a warning that says something like "If you buy a movie poster that supposedly comes from another country, and the poster says 'Made in ________', make sure that phrase is actually written in the language they speak over there."

Job well done all around.
Great to see a crook stymied by the fine folks at APF.

I was the underbidder last night at Heritage on the 1932 Tarzan Spanish-language one sheet that sold for $930, a bargain compared to the US English language poster that recently sold for $65,000.   I think the Spanish language version has slightly better art:
