I have two different versions of the French poster for Madame De...

Both feature Noel art, but one has are cartoonier color palette. This is most visible in the "gold" areas of the design. The cartoonish one uses a bright, yellow gold, whereas the other one uses a more subdued hue. I'd say the one with the subdued gold features more refined, subtler modeling in the artwork.

The cartoon-colored one was printed by St. Martin and is unsigned. The other one lists no printer and bears Noel's signature.

I notice that the Choko guide lists no printer for this poster.

I routinely see the cartoonish one sold as a first-release poster. The other version is the only example I've ever seen.

Anyone know anything more about these posters?

It looks like the gold one was never folded a 4th time.  The only other french poster I've seen that didn't have the final fold was from the 1950s.  If I had to guess based on that and the quality of the gold ink, that one is probably the first release.  But I don't know any specifics unfortunately....

The gold one was actually backed on what looks like another poster. Then it was folded. What it was like originally is anyone's guess. Interestingly, it came from Japan.

I'd guess the gold one is the original as well.

In looking at your 2 posters, I would agree that the second (bottom) image is the original release, especially since it has the artist's signature, and the more vivid copy does not. Also, there have been other examples posted (not of just french other countries as well), in which later reissues using the exact artwork, had this bright, overly saturated appearance.

The overall printing quality looks sharper and more detailed on the bottom poster, as well.

Beautiful, in any case.   clap
