Was going to say Toronto...but saw you already edited your post.

Here is an interesting piece of information:
On November 17-18, 1984 in Canada (for a United Way Benefit) and on March 28, 1985, in the United States, there was one complete, uncut showing of the Star Wars trilogy at nine participating theaters. These nine theatres were each given two personalized posters for the promotion of this event, creating the rarest and quite possibly the most valuable one-sheet ever produced for the Star Wars Trilogy. These black and white, "photographically enlarged" one-sheets, were created from the original local newspaper advertisements, with a few minor changes, and each one measures approximately 27" x 41", while the Canadian version is slightly larger. These heavy stock posters have an embossed, textured feel to them, and they contain the three movie logos, along with the theatre's name, box office information, and any sound system logo (eg. THX) that applied to that individual theatre. The American versions of this poster contain text at the top that proclaims - "For the first time in America, the Star Wars Trilogy", while the Canadian version says, "Special Showing, One Performance Only." In the gallery we are showing the original advertisement from the Dallas newspaper, the original GCC North Park West one-sheet from the Northpark I & II cinemas, the infamous Plitt Carnegie theatre bootleg reprint, and a ticket from the RKO Warner Theater. Unfortunately, these US posters are basically unattainable to even the most passionate of SW collectors because of their lack of availability, but other countries around the world (eg. United Kingdom / France / Australia / Germany) also held similar venues for the Star Wars Trilogy, and obtaining those theatrical posters is somewhat easier.

And if you really want to get technical there are actually 9 different versions of this poster since each theater got two and each poster was personalized to that theater adding the name of the theater and maybe a few other small text and/or logo changes.

And Stew what exactly is Hammertime in regards to Star Wars?? Not sure what you meant.

"Not to pick on Emovie but they're selling a bootleg triple-bill Star Wars poster. "

Mel and everyone else, know that we WANT you to point out ANY mistakes we made (but please e-mail us so I don't have to patrol these boards 24/7. Once upon a time I personally looked over every item we auctioned before the listing went live, and then we had an incredibly tiny number of errors.

Bruce

Bruce, there are two ways you ask for feedback.  You covered errors here, but you occassionally ask for more information.  That sort of stuff I am less likely to give back because it may hurt a competitive advantage.  For example, I bid and won a Grease Broadway Cast poster last week.  A little research showed me where it was likely displayed and the relatively short timeframe when it could have been up.  I even found a picture of it in place.  If I had mailed that back, it may have made the poster more desirable, and would have cost me more.  From my viewpoint, it isn't my job to do the research for my competition, but I'd be happy to feed back the info AFTER auction close.  Thoughts?

That's fine Jay, and I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself (although there HAVE been some people who have chosen to give us info before the item ends, even though they plan on bidding on it).

But please DO submit the info after. We maintain the most comprehensive database there is (I shudder to think how many man/woman hours went into building it!), and we incorporate that post-auction info into it, so if we ever get that item again, we list it more accurately.

Thanks!

Bruce

Wow.  That one sold for that much and a 30x40 for Episode IV from the same seller sold for $201.50

That's because it's a 30x40in.  A lot of collectors stay out of the format.

Yeeaaaaah... I'd chalk it up more to a poor seller, scratched condition and a description that reads:

Quote
This 14" x 36" insert promotes the controversial 1977 feature "Looking for Mr. Goodbar," starring Diane Keaton, Tuesday Weld, Richard Kiley, Richard Gere and Tom Berenger. "A dedicated schoolteacher spends her nights cruising bars, looking for abusive men with whom she can engage in progressively violent sexual encounters." says IMDB, and that's about as succinct a description as I could have come up with. This one still holds up well, with great performances by Keaton and Weld (nominated for Best Supporting Actress Oscar).

Condition:

VERY FINE to NEAR MINT The business end of the insert's artwork is unsullied by the rolled-storage striations that impact the lower half. The dark nature of the artwork, and the comensurately heavier black ink usage on the bottom, left this one a little more susceptible to this kind of damage. There are no other defects—it's a really nice looking poster.

Why is that so? I thought 30x40s were a special catch?

Because, excuse my French, it's a fucked up size.  It's just a OS extended on each side with a lot of nothing.  I don't see the point.  Neither do a lot of collectors.  But if you like it, it's all that matters.

Aren't they rolled and printed on a nicer paper, though? To me it seems like a luxurious "premium" poster. But I've never ever beheld one, so what do I know?

I personally do not care for rolled paper pre 1985.  Posters were sent folded to theaters, and that's how I like them.  If you like rolled posters, it's probably a nice alternative, but it's an impossible format to frame, and the white bars are extremely distracting.  If you put one up at your house, I guarantee you any guests would ask, "What's up with the white bars."

Agreed it is a personal preference.  I have benefitted a couple of times by people turning up their noses at them.  FWIW, Utrecht sells a cheap frame in the size.  I can frame one for less than an insert.  http://www.utrechtart.com/

Have just read the whole thread and it's fascinating... here's my Polish Star Wars from '79 (I think!), it's one of my favourite poster images for the film because of it's abstractness (is that a word!?).

I picked it up at a Westminster Memorabilia Fair (in ye olde Methodist HQ) many moons ago from a specialist Polish poster dealer. I probably spent too much on it as I seem to remember having to nip out to a bank to get some more sponds! Looking back at my records it seems like I splashed £160 on it back in January 2004... ho hum, love it anyways ;D

I'm interested in the single horizontal fold (it doesn't look machine folded to me), I'm pretty sure I've seen some without folds, does anyone know how these were usually sent out?

Carrie Fisher is no longer a heifer - she's lost 50 pounds and is down to 129.  But she doesn't look great for being 54:

You know those stars that write books and do shows as part of a 12 step program.  Carrie's Wishful Drinking was the only one of those that I actually watched to the end.  Enough humor and insight to make up for the typical self indulgence of the genre.
