I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the $20K Star Wars bombshell that dropped tonight at eMovieposter....

It was a tight race between two bidders from the get-go.  Cool story if you read the description, one of 18 copies made only - who knows how many survived to this day.  And good on the consignor for hanging on to this gem for 29 years!

The last one sold for what 5,000.  I'm not surprise that it went for a good bit more, but I wouldn't have put it in this range... but really, once you clear a certain level, it's usually just a matter of who has the smallest penis and/or largest wallet...

The important thing in those auctions is to know when to throw in the towel.  If you don't you end up looking like an idiot.  An idiot with a fat wallet is still an idiot.

Not me.  If you google that username (Cotasnoova) it appears to be a prominent member/seller over at RebelScum.

Yeah but now you don't have that Jaws poster...

Exactly, because I knew when to throw in the towel.  For everything I buy, I have a very specific price in mind.  For Jaws, I actually went $1,000 above my limit, just because I got caught in Bruce's bidding frenzy.  Am I upset I didn't win it?  Absolutely.  Am I glad I wasn't an idiot and knew when to stop.  You betcha.

Thought the soundtrack poster was a bit much as well. Guess it stays on my want list a while longer.

There were a few decent deals on the SW posters though. I thought the NPR for $66 was a great buy, actually I was very surprised it did not do more.

Good grief.

Sad thing is, for the completist, there are another seven such posters to pick up...all with their respective theatre names on them.

I scored this ROTJ 40X60 and aleady know exactly where I will be putting it in the new house.  Couldnt find a similar one on EMP that has sold...must be rare AND EXTREMELY valuable!

Actually if you look at the EMP image in extra large format I noticed the top left corner has "RETURN OF THE JEDI STYLE B 830013" but its written upside down.  Is this normal?

I think $240 for the soundtrack poster is pretty nuts...

But this poster wasn't folded... thousands and thousands still exist folded and it can be bought for say $20 - $30 in near mint folded condition with a little effort, but rolled is a different story.

Maybe a few rolled copies went to record stores to pin up, maybe a few to people in the business at the time? But this title in near-mint rolled condition 36 years on is very rare and near impossible to find.

Also, I think the reason it went for such a good price is because unlike a movie poster the folds in this title really spoil it. It's a painting by John Berkey http://www.johnberkey.com/, it is 100% art, as opposed to a movie poster which is art/ad. (Berkey also illustrated the second edition of the Star Wars novelization.)

You wouldn't want a folded art print. So to find a copy in this condition makes it special. $240... bargain! (I know, next week one will go for $35 but what the hell, I'm sticking to my argument!)

And as for the $20,500 triple bill in the same auction... not a bargain but very nice if you've got the cash :)

So was this your $240 that was spent?
