Here is the coolest Chaykin we have ever had, autographed by Lucas and Kurtz ca. 1980.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170991416578

Very cool. I would be interested in buying it too, but not for $5k.

Put it up for one of your $0.99 starting bid auctions and I'll bite :).

However, I have some reservations about the George Lucas signature. Most of the known ones look nothing like that. Mine is nothing more a continuous GL (with the G looking more like an E). I did some research before hand and that style matches up with other known signatures. I'm sure he's signed his full name on occasion though, but doing a quick search shows full signatures that look nothing like what's on your poster. Do you have any proof showing that it's really his?

I found an early signature of Lucas' from the mid 70's, on a contract page he signed. His sig had evolved by 1980, but in looking at these side by side, certain letters like the capital "G" (note the loop), the "e" and the capital "L" look very similar, (yet more free flowing by 1980). Same hand?? :

Yes, there are similarities. It just looks like Lucas has signed it in an irritated rush, which is understandable.

Star Wars rolled Style A sells for $1,855.  Since it lacks a PG box, it presumably is an international poster and it's unclear whether it should be considered a "first printing" since it was not released internationally for several months after its US debut. Emovie did not mention the lack of the PG box (and I missed it too until another collector mentioned it to me):

Interesting! I didn't notice that either and was going to bid on it - until the price jumped up from $1200 to $1855 in the last ten minutes.

This version is mentioned here:
http://www.moviepostercollectors.com/MPC_Authentication_Star_Wars_Style_A.html
as an "extremely rare" version, but the jury seems to be out on whether it's International or not. Apparently there are two types - one with the litho marking (which this has) and one without.

That's one of the Factors commercial release Hildebrandts (24x36?).
They used to be a dime a dozen.
I'll bet the edges on this one were hedged from some kid hanging it on the wall, so they mounted it for extra mileage.

Good to know. I recall those commercial versions living at Spencer's Gifts, next to the babes, boobage and incense...  qip

Thanks, Ted!  ;)
