Hello. My name is Jessica Olsen and I'm a fairly new addition at Mondo. I've been helping out in many areas of the company, so I thought I might be able to address concerns brought up here. My intention is NOT to come in and dispel every remark made about Mondo. But I would like to be able to clear up major misconceptions as they arise, and answer any questions that you might have. If I don't know the answer, I'll find out for you. Thanks in advance for having me!

First of all, welcome to the forum. It's always great to have people connected to various sectors of the poster collecting world. You'll likely prove a valuable resource for those of us very interested in limited art prints. This could lead to some extremely interesting discussion. I know several people have called Mondo out for not taking any action to prevent people flipping their prints the second the sale ends. It's not uncommon for twenty or so prints to pop up on eBay almost instantaneously for four or five times the price it was sold. Obviously secondary markets are the only way for people to acquire older prints or prints they missed, but the immediate cashing in on your product seems like something Mondo want to address. Then again, I know very little about business. That, and some people (like myself) are often completely unable to access the Mondo website during drop periods. We get this:

Welcome, Jessica. Nice to have a Mondo ambassador...hope you can put up with our/my ups and downs told through repeated rants and raves. So what is the issue with people flipping these prints??
Louie, you give a lot of energy and time typing about a niche aspect of our hobby that you have so much disdain for, to say the least.

So that means you don't want to answer the question or are you just trying to cultivate a relationship with Jessica that will allow you to get Alamo posters without having to go the normal route?

Jessica, how come Tyler doesn't know who you are? You really need to introduce yourself to him. He's a super cool guy and he might help you get a raise. BTW, in case you're wondering, that's not me on the avatar. You stumbled upon a male oriented forum. Not too many females in these parts. JEANNIE, where are you?

So what is the issue with people flipping these prints??
Everyone asks about this and as much as I hate flippers shutting me out of a drop I don't know what everyone expects Mondo to do about it?? I mean theres what 5 employees at Mondo?? Just imagine the time it would take for them to sit down and try to track IP's or jack with peoples eBay accounts .. I mean the stores only open like a half day .. and Im sure they have other things going on jobs/family/lives .. To inspect every order and try to discern if it is a real collector or a flipper and then whos to say they dont go too far?? Ive bought multiple prints before, I got my brother into collecting prints and his job is more demanding than mine so if possible Id pick up one for him then they came down and ended all multiple purchases from one account .. Thankfully they still shipped mine but they canceled the 2nd copy .. Now through friends and my sis-in-law we try and get both of us covered .. But just because I have bought multiple prints before should they have banned me immediately because there was supposed evidence that I was a flipper? If they had they would have lost me and possibly my brother (maybe not ) as customers... So instead of asking why do they allow flippers to buy why dont we offer them possible ways to thwart flippers .. and she if Jessica can tell us why our ideas would work or wouldnt ??

in fairness nothing can be done about flippers, but something should be done about the checkout option.

I used to argue the same thing .. But if they implemented a reserve system based on what buyers have in their carts, whats to stop a flipper from carting 4, 5 .. 10 posters then going through and finishing each transaction ? The way it is now isnt perfect .. BUT its so random and imperfect that its somehow fair .. I dont know how some people seem to always sail through perfectly and others seem to get shut out all the time .. But the way it is now its just as likely that a flipper will get a page not found error as a "real collector" ..

Youre expecting that they play by the rules as well (which we should all know by now that they dont).. Whats to stop them from having multiple computers auto-refreshing the shop page then as soon as they come up with 2 clicks they will have the print safely added to their carts .. across 2-3 computers maybe takes 5-10 seconds .. and what if they have a gf/wife/friend(s) helping them .. and also theres the issue with automated scripts that can be set to run within a second on as many computers as you own .. As long as they can get the items in their carts it is theirs .. then if needed they can go to each computer and manually finish each transaction.

Slightly off topic, but I was under the impression this was an Amazonian forum. You mean you're not all women?

I never asked why do they allow flippers, I asked what is the issue people have with them flipping prints? It seems there are a lot of people pissed when they get shut out of a sale and then blame the flippers, all about supply and demand in my book.

I posted this in the other Alamo thread as well.... Is there any way you could institute some sort of superficial change in the checkout system (swap two form boxes, swap placement of submit/cancel buttons, etc...) prior to drops to disrupt the flippers using scripts/automation to acquire multiples? Or heck, just add a CAPTCHA challenge prior to checkout. I imagine the only people who would complain about the inconvenience are the flippers. I think most buyers/collectors would be happy to know that a unique human is buying each poster. It won't eliminate flippers by any means, but it would be a good start in restoring confidence...
