POSTERS THAT SCREAM OUT FOR COLOR!
« on: April 04, 2011, 10:44:51 PM »
I have a few posters that really should've been done in color....full color...
Here's a few...

It's possible there are color versions of these, but I haven't seen them.  If you know of their existence, let me know....

Anyone know who the artist was for this one?

Art by Frank Frazetta

Art by Gray Morrow

I find it quite ironic with regards to this thread how on the above poster it states 'IN COLOR' bottom left  ;D
Best wishes,

That poster most certainly needs colour.

I love the Mad Monster Party, I'm sure the poster was released in colour...

I'm in two minds over this... It is first release, the B&W art is first rate, but I can't help think it would have been so much better in full colour.

I think this poster looks great the way it is. I really dig the orange background with the grayscale art.

Paul, why does the close up image make the faces appear more tinted green? Its a VERY COOL look. Is it simply that the lighting was a little different?

Great topic, Brude. (There have been a lot of great topics lately.)

Here's one for debate - is the black and white in Style B more effective than the colorful Style A?

What puzzles me in the case of THE TERROR is why the "B" poster has more of the characteristics of a "teaser" than the "A" poster which looks more like the "final design."
I usually always opt for full color, but this "B" sheet is more mysterious.

It would be interesting to see what difference colour would make but in this instance I really like the b&w.

Either way it's just great to see an original 1st issue quad to a Hitchcock film. It's surprising how few actually turn up from this particular period which was arguably his busiest and most successful.

Paul, it certaintly would be interesting to see in color for sure, but I still think its an exceptional poster...a true beauty.  I almost like the simplicity of it, especially in the quad format.

As for the Terror, I always assumed that 'style B' was in fact, a teaser.  Am I wrong?

While I dont think this 6 sheet screams for color (as it works great in BW, IMO), it would be interesting to a the color variant.

Thanks Jeff! I havenīt seen this one before, but the Karloff image looked familiar, so I checked the archives and it seems like we -lazy bastards- used it for the 60s rerelease of "Bedlam":

Well I don't know how many posters to post here... One of my pet peeves is what Hammer did to some of there Quad posters. They have colour but..... well you'll see what I mean.

And yet Chantrell did a first rate full colour poster for this film :-\

And what was this all about...

What was their obsession with dayglow posters!!!

These aren't much better, Don't get me wrong I love these posters, but they could have made more of an effort.

A little recycling there, Matias.. add some pink and yellow along with a clawed hand that has a pair of Frankenstein-like neck bolts on the wrist, and there you go!   ;D

This is one of my favorite movies. I wish I could say the same about the poster:
