Too bad Mary Astor had to fuck it up by signing it, what a beaut!

The Woman Accused (Paramount, 1933); US OS

Was there a play intended with this post?  As in Mary Astor being accused of fing up a poster...  It was good if that was the case...

Cabaret is terrific.  It should be noted that Gilda Gray was the inventor of "The Shimmy" dance move.

We are eternally grateful.

I love this and the signature.

I'm so happy for you. Personally I think when when stars sign items other than photographs they take away from the beauty of the piece. The Astor signature looks terrible on this one sheet.

Well, I'm not scrubbing the two Rays signatures off of my BEAST FROM 20 THOUSAND FATHOMS one sheet  ;D.
I'll raise a glass to the illusion but drink to the reality.

I agree with Louie. In this example the signature, which is not contemporary to the piece, is too prominent and distracts from the beautiful image. I can understand the thrill of meeting Mary Astor and having her sign it but the signature could have been better placed.

I agree with Louie and Mark.. it's poorly placed and is an obstructive item to the art

ps Lynn: I'm not scrubbing my Harryhausen sigs either, but every one of them is placed better than this

Actually, I was impressed at how clever Astor (then 75 years old) was to autograph her 'white shoulders,' underscoring the film's title.
And, while the sig might be 'contemporary,' it added something special to this poster's history.  I'd bet the bank that this was the first poster for this film that she'd seen (much less handled) since she starred in it 50 years earlier.
And then she got to autograph it for a fan at the ripe old age of 75.

What a head rush she must have experienced at the time it was brought to her.

As well as a shoulder rush..   ;D

I know it is sacrilege, but I prefer the other (non-Chaney) style. I think it is one of the best movie posters ever!

That's clever.. great little one liners down the poster. Is her face a tinted photo? Or done artwork?

In either case, it's  thumbup

Me likes, too!

I think it is ALL a colorized photo, but it still works great!
