I don't think my copy has ever been on fleaBay.  The gent I bought it from doesn't go that route.

Lyn, I thought it might have been the ebay copy offered by Jim Gresham not too long ago.  ;)

No, it wasn't Jim's copy. I did see him at Cinevent where he bought a BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN half sheet from the same dude I got the IG from.

Just goes to show the amount of "high level" sales that go on privately

I stopped in an antique/art gallery, here in west LA yesterday... up on the wall and in a frame was this GIGANTIC German poster (it looked to be the size of 2 french 1Ps, but vertical) for the 1919 German film, called Opium. I never knew that early German paper was produced in this mammoth size. It was stunning!  bed1

Here are 2 images (not of the one I saw).. the slightly darker image better shows the page breaks where the 2 panels were joined.

The manager told me the owner wants $450,000.00

She also said that only 2 or 3 are known to exist. (And that the price was likely due to the fact that the owner probably really doesnt want to sell it... and if so.... there's the price!  ;) )

When my mouth dropped open, that's when the ass't gallery manager said the owner had it priced so that it wouldn't likely sell --he likes it way too much, apparently.  ;)

But this little gallery had MANY posters they were selling.. OS, HS, inserts, 40x60s and 30x40s. Some linen backed, some not. The bulk of the stuff was from the mid-late 50s, 60s, and some from the early 70s. A huge % were more "throw away" titles. This place was having a sale... and the cheapest thing being offered were inserts.. I went thru a tub of them.. many unfolded, so that was cool.

But the price of ANY insert, regardless of the title, was $100.00. OS were 3-500.00 each, again, on sale! Some 40x60s were priced as high as 3500-4000.00. Again, not for any title that would ever get that at auction. (The gallery primarily sells higher end, 19th antiques and paintings, so this really explains their pricing).

I love that Robin Hood WC Ted. girly.gif How funny...We were talking yesterday about that poster!!!! there is another version with both of them that looks like a painting. It has a Pre-Raphaelite mood to it.

Yes, that is a beauty, Rosa.
I recently re-watched this fantastic film on (of all places) Youtube.
There are many versions available, but this one (split into 2 parts) has my favorite score.
As a matter of fact, I have it on now just to listen to the music, which is simple yet superior to the Kino remastered version.

Part 1

Part 2

 cheers

Thanks for sharing Ted. There are few silent films which i want to watch at some point. This is certainly one. I am a huge fan of "The thief of Bagdag" too.
