Somewhere here there was an interesting snipe, I love them. Anyone got some posters with great/strange/AWSOME snipes?
Heres one you may have seen, the poster is great in itself, but the snipe (the large white area) makes it, an interesting peek into the mores of times past in Australia.

You Ari, are the only one in the whole world I like that eats offal, misses his dead rat carcasses, draws women on walls with skin peeling off of them and keeps a meat cleaver by his bed.

That is such an awesome poster, Ari.
Snipe, tag lines and pics together make it classic.

Good idea Ari!
I sold this "Phantasm" poster some time ago that had this small black snipe with the text "Directed by John Badham". Odd

This one just left me scratching my head, and I consider it a great example of censorship stupidity.
The film is called "intimacies of a prostitute". The title was considered too strong in it`s time, so a snipe with a softer word was placed over the word "prostitute", however Sarli`s awesome breasts were left intact.

In another copy, the word was left as originally intended and someone (probably the exhibitor) covered the good parts!

So the question to the censor is: "wich is worst: the word or the tits?" Answer of course is: "none of them, asshole"

This is the King Kong Vs Godzilla, with a snipe, but it's printed directly on to the poster. I'm wondering if there was some with just a sticker, and this was copied from them...

And this is it without the snipe...

The sniped version has the 'X' rating... could the other one be a re-release?

The un-sniped one also has the X cert, but blacked out. When the film was re-released, sometimes to save on printing different posters, the originals were used again. If the certification had changed, they just blacked it out.

So you think the un-sniped version is an original release poster, but that it was also used (with the 'X' blacked out) for a re-release?  Cool history.

That's correct Harry, and it's not just this film it's happened with. There are many others... makes you think.

On a similar subject, I have 3 copys of This Quad. There is the first release where you can see the robots with the twirly... er, bits. Then  they re-released an extended version using the same poster, but put a sticker over the robots ( see red sticker ) which is this poster (first one that come to hand....oh,er, thats not meant as a joke.) And then they re-released the special edition again, and the red sticker bit was actually printed directly on to the poster.  Clear as mud, but you get the picture...I hope. Undecided

They had to send the "is Here" snipes to the theaters because the distributor wanted theaters to use it as an advance, and have the customers asking "When will you be getting THE GREEN SLIME", and they sent the snipe with the poster, saying to put up the poster as soon as you get it, and then add the snipe the day it starts at your theater (there is an explanation of this in a pressbook I have).

The movie looks astoundingly awful, although the "Green Slime" theme song  at the end has potential....

The Green Slime is one of those posters where you don't even need to know the movie to figure out when it was released.  I swear they just used Jane Fonda's picture from Barbarella when doing the rough layout.

And she certainly doesn't appear too concerned or distressed that her right leg is having the circulation cut off by the tentacle of the slime critter; she's even happy to hold his pincer....  laugh

THE GREEN SLIME is an awful movie (IMO), but the poster is one of my favorites from the 60s.

Is it really that bad? It's been years since I watched it. I remember it was a bit tedious but the monsters were fun. Maybe I should watch it again.

Ari, that was a poster for inside busses and subways, the size is called "nakazuri". There is unfortunately no B2 size poster for THE GREEN SLIME in Japan.

So I got the Green Slime - couldn't resist the wackiness - supposed to be original and in NM condition but not going to post it in New Acqs until it shows up and is legit - here's the seller's pic:

Kinda wish I had the snipe label - could try making my own....
