Picked up a couple of Tom Chantrell designed 70s quads: The Land that Time Forgot and At the Earth's Core. I just popped the Land that Time forgot in an archival frame -- but it might get banned by "the management" due to the fact that my three year old is still traumatised by his experience of watching "the scary dinosaurs" in Ice Age 3.

Good news: An original rare Princess Bride quad showed up today.

Good news: It only cost $60 from filmquadposters. Took me forever to find it but I happened to track it down on this site through Google.  The only other one I found for sale was 400 pounds (now reduced to 300 pounds on ukquad.com).

Bad news: It showed up severely damaged - the tube was dented and ugly wrinkling/denting extends from side to side.  (Pure bad luck - the tube was strong and should have survived.)

Good news: The denting/wrinkling does not touch the characters and presumably can be corrected with linen-backing.  (How much does it cost to linen-back a quad?)

That's some bad luck but on the plus side that poster is lovely.

Woke up a little hangover after a night of debauchery in Paris, but I still wanted to share the best of my newest acquisitions while I'm here:

A large French (47x63in) of "War of the Worlds" (1953).  The artwork is by Roger Soubie, the colors are vibrant, it's linenbacked (not a big fan of linenbacking, but this poster is impossible to come by and was in mint condition prior to linenbacking.)

This is one of those elusive posters that made me want to collect in the first place and I never though in a million years that I would actually own it one day.  I'm very exited.

Thierry

Wow, there is some very nice stuff going up..........all of them very very high quality pieces!!  Too bad about the damage on that quad, Mel.  It is kinda interesting how the price jumped on the Princess Bride Quad.  I got mine from ukquad a couple of years ago for 60 pounds, and it is still one of my favorites in my collection.

Ooo... is that the Dr. No quad that was recently listed on eBay?  I think I recognize the scuff by the "As" text.  It is in fantastic shape otherwise.

Nice score on the WotW 1-panel Eatbrie! Did you also pick up your Dr. No?  What else did you get?

yep thats  the one, he gave me a decent price a lot cheaper than his starting price on the bay. Nice chap as well

Great, great poster Thierry.

Thanks Erich...  Yes, it is the third most expensive poster I've ever bought, but it was well worth it.  I talked to Pierre Bourdy, who wrote a book on Soubie, and he told me that he had to use a generic picture for War of the World because he couldn't find an actual picture anywhere.  He also said that I got it at a very, very good price, which made me happy.

Now, after Dr. No and War of the Worlds, plus a dozen others that I will eventually post on my site, I might have to restrain myself a little.  It sucks!

Thanks Chris, ESB daybill seems to be a little harder to come by these days and the one sheet is getting very pricey.

They're all sweet Matt, but I particularly love Scarface. Is the artwork exclusive to the daybill?

The word is that this Dirty Dozen quad was the inspiration behind Chantrell's design of the first Star Wars Poster...

Just recently acquired this baby.  I'm developing a thing for the Quad.  I searched for this one for a long, long time.

I actually prefer the US paper on Iron Giant. To me it gives a more retro feel. I love the Quad as well, but the US one sheet to me is in a whole different class all together.

Yes, the one where the giant is laying down and Hogwarth is standing by his face, I believe.  Another good one.

I also prefer the US feel for that retro look that Dale mentioned, but do really want the quad.

Such a great movie.  Brad Bird knows what he is doing.

I also have the quad and yes, the retro look is appealing.  My only gripe about the US sheet is that the Iron Giant looks like he is about to fall on his face.  He's lurching forward just a bit.  An even better retro look for this title can be found in my Unicorn post from last night.  Production designer Mark Whiting did a prototype 1sht that was not used til later as a limited edition giclee print.  Check it out.

My, my but this has been a good week for me and quads..

I bought this from fallenangel earlier this week.  Great price, great packaging and fast shipping.  Thanks fallen..

and this came today...

and this one -- which photobucket took off my site (prudes...) -- I got a few weeks back...  speaking of photobucket... I questioned them on why they had pulled my Frazetta Luana and International Illustrated Man off my site.  They reviewed the situation and reloaded.  Thanks, Photobucket.

Nice ladyhawke quad, I never seen this visual before

I got today my avatar lenticular I booked in a cinema 2 months ago, I got if for free, I was really surprised by the thickness of the lenticular, and it's a really heavy one, the lenticular is nice but has to be light on the back, taking pics of this bad boy is really hard

I also got some lobby cards at the same time, no complete set, but it was free, so I won't complain

Glad youre happy with the poster .. Quads are my 1st love as far as sizes go .. I still need to pick up some frames from Sue to hang those few special ones that will remain in my collection .. (ill try to reply to your PM this afternoon/evening Wink)

I just got my eBay account back so I may be listing some of my posters up for sale there soon .. Sadly because of my noob poster selling status Im probably going to have to make them fixed price auctions ..
