I'm pumped for this movie. From what I gather its essentially Stand By Me with aliens, but I'm worried it won't make any money. Super 8 is right in the middle of Pirates, Kung Fu Panda, Green Lantern, Cars 2, and Transformers. As far as family films with brand-awareness, Super 8 has really tough competition. I don't think it will be particularly hard to sell Super 8, but they're going to have to sell it hard, because it's got a lot of competition.

I find it funny that, even after watching the trailer, people don't understand why the poster is sideways. But then again, who even knows what a Super 8 is anymore?

I could see it the hype building ala Cloverfield.  But this certainly looks even better.

I like the nostalgic feel of the actual film stock...

I am desperately looking for a Steven Spielberg signed letter (especially with Schindler's List content). If you have one I will make you an offer you can't refuse.

If you turn that poster on it's side it's a Quad, what a great way to keep Mel and me happy.

But then it won't be sideways!

If you were to translate this poster into a Quad, it would utilize approximately the left 15% of the poster for the image and the remainder would be clouds and text. Talk about poor use of space. Tongue

The real question is, would they embiggen the text or shift it over to the right to ensure a large gaping hole in the center of the quad? I can't decide what I'd prefer. Enormous text or empty space.

Same here. I really like that poster. It's really neat.

Planning to see this film tonight. I heard lots of good things about it. I hope I like it as well.

It looks like a Struzan.

It does, but the dimensions look a tad too narrow for a one sheet.  I did not see this at the theater when I watched the film - they had a same-art-as-the-teaser-only-with-credits final version, so I doubt this will be a US theatrical release.

The use of the word 'Lost' on the right hand side gives you an idea of how they totally butchered the marketing for the movie.  With how much the Lost ending pissed people off, it's the last reference that I would be making.  They tried to sell it on JJ Abrams and Spielberg's name alone, making it look like an ET/Goonies (kinda good, kinda cheesy), when it was a Stand By Me/Close Encounters, which is a giant leap in up quality, in my opinion...

Their last minute twitter campaign pre-opening day promotion (the film opened Thursday in IMAX and if you bought a ticket, Paramount gave you a free small popcorn) failed miserably.

I just watched this and I hadnt read Archies latest comment.. and as I was watching the movie i felt it was a combination of Cloverfield and ET with a touch of Stand By Me mixed in for good measure .. It drew from some good movies but never hit the mark on any level. It was fun and had a couple fleeting moments but overall I was disappointed. Sad
