Great Dog Mel, Oh and the Schlock poster is a classic of the first order...  Listen to Uncle Ted. cool1

The dog is unique-- and he won first place in a contest, too! qip qip

I've never seen this pic before, Paul.
I'm assuming it's from a mag.
Is it something you own?

Surely you jest, DW...
THE SHINING one sheet is a classic piece of art by the legendary Saul Bass, considered by many to be the father of the modern movie poster.
No horror film poster collection should be without it.

That is a great and unique image, paul! Ive never seen that before. The scars on the body and lingerie are amazing. It certainly isnt outdone by, or lesser than, the newer French re-release image, IMO. Not by a long shot.

Paul,

That's a beaut and truly singular in its composition. A huge thumbs up to that piece. Where is that from?

Easy there father time. ;) I jest you not good Sir. I'm not a big fan of any of his poster designs. The key word being design. I like illustrations, organic shapes and depth, not clever geometric collages. To each their own, but they are not my cup of tea. Maybe I don't get it, but I'll take a Maniac 1sh instead any day.

I have this French re-release, and noticed straight away her under-chin scars are missing, photo-shopped out.....!!

The full shot of the Bride was taken from a Horror film site us classic monster nuts go on. I think it was also a photo-shop thing it's self, mind I would buy it if it was released as a full size poster...

And to quote Ted, you young people nono...........that Ansin bride is an insult to all us Classic monster people.
It's more than a Hobby...

I hate posters with inset pictures in them and that Valentine's Day poster is the magnum opus of inset picture posters!

While it's a shame that an iconic horror masterpiece such as The Shining received this poster design, I have to agree with Dream Warrior on this one. I had a rolled Shining and sold it. That's how much I hated the design. I would put The Shining poster near the top, if not the very top, of bad poster designs for really good movies. Not to disregard Saul's other works of art though.

Agreed the US Shining is damn ugly.
Actually, strangely I dont like THE EXORCIST either. I love both films, but the posters could be SO much better.
Same goes for THE NINTH GATE, so much potential from the films, wasted.

While THE EXORCIST poster image has become rather iconic, I rather do like the imagery of the one on the right, as well. Im not sure if that was for a video release, but the melding of the 2 images, and the glow of her eyes is pretty intense, IMO.

I like the colouring of the second, the eyes not so much, if the 1st got rid of the big block of colour for text (in a perfect world I would probably trim it off), used the photo style of the second, id like it, I love the shot. I admit I dont like purple. I understand the significance of using purple, but to me its an ugly colour. I would have preferred a religious styled painting related to the movie. Same goes for The 9th Gate, the imagery in the BOOK could have been used. Not a photo of JD (i know he was a draw card for many)

I really like the original Exorcist design. In fact, it was the first poster I bought.

I do too. It ranks right up there with my SHINING.  wynk
Great use of color and stark, simple imagery.
