Paul, I see that Desi Arnaz is also in that film? Never thought he would be in a horror flick.

Every time I see this poster for SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS, I think about how good it would be in 4 color....cool piece...

I've been thinking of a new thread....POSTERS THAT SCREAM OUT FOR COLOR!

GOOD POSTER-BAD FILM OF THE 1920's

The Sheik (Paramount, 1921).

Beautiful poster. Awful film. Controversy is served.  This is the year of The Kid, and The Ace of Hearts. This is film history. But it is a BAD as in BAD film. Quote: "The film is a farrago of nonsense". There are lots of nonsense that are worth watching. But this one is just depressing.

Valentino plays Sheik, who kidnapS an English woman, there is a rape, which is not a rape, it is a fantasy, and a sheik who is not a Sheik, but a well bred European (I seem to remember French). It was, still is a hit. But it is a BAD film.

Incidentally the Son of the Sheik and The Eagle (the latter in particular) are EXCELLENT FILMS. And Cobra has one of the best ''Woman is a Devil' scenes. Just saying.

The Sheik (Paramount, 1921). Thierry hates "Thierry hates "Thierry hates "French Grande""" (47" X 63")

Just Another Blonde (First National, 1926). Insert (14" X 36").

This is 1926, the year of The General and The Son of the Sheik. This is a pretty stupid-silly-film. Louise Brooks is there, but there is no sense of history. I guess the title says it all.  I like the insert very much. I'll keep that.

GOOD POSTER BAD MOVIE 1930s

The Man Who Came Back (1931)
This is a boring and bad film. No way out of this. Beautiful poster IMO.

Flaming Guns 1932
No words to describe the film. But I do think the poster is fab.

The Man Who Came Back (Fox, 1931). Swedish One Sheet (27.5" X 39.5").

Flaming Guns (Universal, 1932). One Sheet (27" X 41")

GOOD POSTER-BAD FILM 1940

Confidential Agent (Warner Brothers, 1945)

Quote:This was Bacall's second film after her electrifying debut in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT with Humphrey Bogart, but CONFIDENTIAL AGENT did not serve her career well. It is a plodding film under Shumlin's unimaginative direction..No the poster. The POSTER gimme, gimme, gimme.

Confidential Agent (Warner Brothers, 1945). Italian 2 - Foglio (39" X 55").[/b]

Ghosts on the Loose (Monogram, 1943).

Boy oh Boy. What a crap. Quote: Bela Lugosi and Ava Gardner. How could this go wrong? No idea, but it did. But the poster is quite something- though I only found LC

Ghosts on the Loose (Monogram, 1943). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").

THANKS TO JEFF

HERE IS THE OS

The Maze (Allied Artists, 1953). One Sheet (27" X 41")

B. You know I love you to bits, but this will not do. The poster will always look great because you are in it shame cannot really say the same about the film. I have this one as a bad film. ..

Battle Circus (MGM, 1953). One Sheet (27" X 41").

I actually watched this film, at college, and man, was fun, but it is ..well. Say no more

And here is where I lost the will to live...pass

1990
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
QUOTE: "The Phantom Menace" is perhaps one of the worst films I have ever had to sit through, and a disgrace to both Star Wars and Lucasfilm. A true embarrassment, I was near tears through most of the film.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (20th Century Fox, 1999). One Sheet (27" X 40")

2000

PREMONITION    DS 1 Sheet Movie Poster - Style A

And that's all. I am sure that there are 3.67 zillion posters better than these ones. Im done.

Shouldn't this thread be called "How a poster wasted my money"..   Because if I'd seen a great poster and went in to see the film, and it was Awful. I wouldn't say the poster saved the day.....!

Mind I quite like some of those Z grade pictures, Ghosts on the loose, Reptilicus. Modesty Blaise.. Next you'll be listing Fathom.. :D

The whole exploitation genre was born from posters promising things they couldn't deliver.

I was just preparing the next update for my website and was reminded of how great the Japanese poster for RING 2 is (US adaptation of the movie), and how crappy the film was....

Some elements of the poster are embossed, which looks stunning.
