That is a great poster Armin. In fact the Ring 2 lenticular is also one of the more effective and represents the subject matter very well... more so than the film.

Great topic by the way and look forward to seeing what else gets posted.

Paul.

Shouldn't this thread be called "How a poster wasted my money"..   Because if I'd seen a great poster and went in to see the film, and it was Awful. I wouldn't say the poster saved the day.....!

Mind I quite like some of those Z grade pictures, Ghosts on the loose, Reptilicus. Modesty Blaise.. Next you'll be listing Fathom.. :D

nope, me no listing fathom, no nopee nope... ;) cool1

cheers   to that Paul, me too, im always curious to know what others consider a bad movie/great poster. That said, the topic was not my idea per se but others in apf, but who cares.. so, let's play.

THE MEPHISTO WALTZ
Excellent poster, was so much looking forward to the movie, which turned out to be boring as hell.

Great topic! The Astounding She Monster merits a measly 2.7/10 on imdb.com.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/FVfW5YVVpIw" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/FVfW5YVVpIw</a>

Invasion of the Star Creatures gets an even worse 2.4.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/kQl9wZf7bLU" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/kQl9wZf7bLU</a>

But the posters are groovy!

My nephew wants this one. IMDB 3.4 RATING. I like the insert. My sis doesn't like the price tag. Oh well.

Monster from the Ocean Floor (Lippert, 1954). Insert (14" X 36").

I remember that this movie was rather anticipated.. and, well, the rest is history (and not in a good way). The poster isn't great, but comparatively speaking... :-\

Van Helsing (Universal, 2004), Advance US OS:

Here we go again.... eyeroll

The first time I watched Van Helsing I was disappointed that it wasn't what I wanted it to be. I now watch it for what it is, a Very enjoyable film "based" on the Uni-Monsters, Bond style.  With one of the sexiest women in films today running around in a tight corset...  What's not to like about this film. :D   It's even got Hugh for the Ladies.

I do urge watching it on a big screen, with full surround sound, and it will do what a film is supposed to, Entertain you for 90 mins or more. If in doubt turn up at my door and I'll run it for you...

I must add the film is much better than the posters in this case...

Glad you liked it, Paul.  thumbup

The numbers, tho, don't lie:

Production Cost: $160M
Prints and Advert: $50.9M

Total Cost: $210.9M

Total Worldwide Gross Boxoffice: $300.2M
($120.2M-US; $180M- Foreign)

Gross Profit, after deducting production and P&A costs: $89.3M

It opened at number one, its first weekend in May, 2004 and dropped 60% by the following weekend:

The film bombed. Overall, people were thinking it was going to be something else. But that isn't to say that there were those that did and do still like it.  8)

Numbers don't mean a thing Jeff, as you should know. Some of the best films ever never made it first time out...

Finally found this thread...

I liked Van Helsing and Reign of Fire.
You people have gone mental.

Now, this is a great poster for an awfully shitty film.
