I tend to agree with those in a the affirmative, print is soon dead, it is simply a question of when.

Technology coupled with the 'green' movement will see the slow end to almost anything printed, save the tree save the planet. Of course print will survive, because there will be collectors to ensure it but not as we know it and certainly not as prolific as it is today and was before.

A sad indictment on the 'throw-away' society? Not really - as long as the content (ergo the message) survives how it is delivered is a mute point.

I posted earlier about small town theaters keeping posters alive for awhile.  I kind of forgot that these smaller theaters are already under attack by the conversion to digital media.  Going to cost a lot more to install digital projectors than to add a 50" monitor to the lobby.

Here is an interesting article from Minnesota Public Radio:

Jay, most of these small town theatres are going to close in the conversion due to cost & competition from corporate chains. Only the small % who can afford to do the conversion will remain and for lots of people the closest theatres are going to be 30 or more miles away from where they are. Places like Montana you'll have to go to any large city, which means you may have to drive 200 miles to see a movie

Agreed.  Blockbuster caused 80% of them to shut down, and this will likely kill 80% of what's left.
