Your Favourite Poster Artists!
« on: February 17, 2011, 12:53:09 PM »
Just looking at the Latest Accusations thread got me thinking about the artists who painted/designed film posters. I know that there are some who only collect certain Artists, but who is your's, do you have a favourite? and why? And lets have plenty of Example's...

Possibly my favourite is Tom Chantrell, he has a great use of colour, and an excellent eye for detail.

He also has a first rate eye, and love of the Female form (as do we all ). Bring on some of Tom's Lady's.

It's more than a Hobby...

Just when I thought you couldn't post any more great quads, you post those, Mr. Waines.  Wow, just wow.  Those are exceptionally nice quads.

Mr. Brie, some of the best Frenchies I've seen, and I mean the posters.  :D  Excellent choices for good French pieces.

Nice ones Zorba, Bob Peak did some great work.  I especially like the Apocalypse Now German.  Were you the one who outbid me in the bidding war on emovieposter for that one?  :-\  Regardless, that is a beaut.

Personally, I do not have a favorite artist.  So many artists, so many works of art, I have yet to declare a favorite.

Yeah, Mascii is quite something.  Since we're on the subject, check out this double panel (63x94in) I received a few days ago for Nicholas Ray's Bitter Victory (1957).

Now, as far as modern artists are concerned, I would have to go Italian, with Renato Casaro, ahead of Struzan, Alvin or Peak.  Here's why:

Hi, T!

Great images - but I have Rudy Obrero credited as the artist on NSNA US 1-sheet - in fact, I think there's a signature on it - I'll check next time I see it.

Best wishes,

Of those not yet mentioned, Boris Vallejo of course.  And then I'd have to say a couple of asian artists:

Japanese artist Noriyoshi Ohrai:

Thai artist Tong Dee

Thanks.  You know what you did.

I started out as a big Saul Bass fan, but have since moved onto the farkin' fabulous Frenchmen like Boris Grinsson and Roger Soubie. But with The Big Brie buying up all those beauties, I might have to switch to another more underrated Frenchie like Clement Hurel...or maybe just move onto another country of origin entirely like the UK (Vic Fair) or Italian (Sandro Symeoni, Arnaldo Putzu).

Not many Lady Artists, so I'll post this by Olga Lehmann. Anyone know if she did any other stuff, as I think this is a great image...
