I happened to be quaffing a few mojitos in a small Cuban bar in London last week and noticed this poster.

Not sure if it's an interesting poster but thought with the Fritz Lang connection there must be some people who know something about it. Looking at the style of the art I'd hazard a guess that it's a re-release jobby, but that's a complete guess! There was some small type at the bottom but I didn't want to take too many photos as the couple having their meal by it didn't look too impressed Grin

Would be interested in any information on it.

Ahhh ha... just did a bit of research and found out the usual name of the film is 'M'.

The 'El Vampiro Negro' title was only used in Argentina as listed in the IMDB.

As it's a 1930 film do you reckon this is year of release poster or a later re-release?

Back to my research...

I've seen that poster before... but I can't for the life of me remember where.  No records at HA or LAMP and trying to search on 'M' in the eMovie database is impossible.  If I had to guess I would think re-release as well.

I just searched on emovie and found it!

For exactly the same poster, folded etc, Bruce said it's from the 1940 1st release in Argentina (it sold on 25.2.2010 for $310.00 and one on linen sold for $366.00 in 2007).

Someone needs to rescue that thing or AT LEAST tell whoever has been cleaning the glass and/or spilling beer on the frame to stop!

Look at all the water/beer/cleaner that has seeped into the bottom  moron1

I know what you're saying CSM, the bottom of the poster was pretty stained and wrinkled from damp!

Do you reckon it's worth me whizzing them an email? How would I phrase it!?

As said, it´s an argentinean one sheet for Fritz Lang´s "M". The text "el vampiro negro" (spanish for "the black vampire") was probably added to make the film´s title more appealing that just "M".
To add some info, in 1953 uruguayan director Roman Viñoly Barreto made a (very good) remake of Lang´s film starring Nathan Pinzon in Peter Lorre´s part. The film was titled: "El vampiro negro"

Thanks 110x75, I love a bit of sleuthing... it's amazing what random information you can find when there's something specific you're searching! What nearly scuppered me was the re-naming of the film, IMDB came to my rescue tho, thanks for posting the remake poster and info. Now to find an original 1s for a few $$s Grin

Cine-Images has some nice original M posters.... a bit pricey for my tastes though!

Original German 3-sheet 20,000 Euros
http://www.cine-images.com/moteur/page_detail.php?id=3390

Original French 1-panel for 30,000 Euros
http://www.cine-images.com/moteur/page_detail.php?id=5182

And last but, by no means least... an insane art deco French 4-panel that makes me want to weep it is so beautiful!  Unfortunately, the 50,000 Euro price also makes me want to weep!

Ouch! I knew there were some 'M' posters that went for a premium but WOW Shocked

Have to agree Harry that French 4-panel is stunning, very closely followed by the German 3-sheet.

Iconic artwork, never seen either, thanks for posting Smiley

I would buy that German three-sheet in a minute - if I had that kind of cash lying around.  Grin

In fact, seems like someone already did. At least I am not able to find the poster on that website anymore?
