Heres a more recent example of a superior quad vs. a 1S .. Bith with the same art only the landscape version of the quad just seems to work better IMHO






The Statue of Liberty is a separate element to the background, allowing placement according to format.

Don't get me wrong there are early quads that had the same "wasted" space. There are also 1shts that do the same.    

Example of a recent exceptionally awful vertical one sheet - the stars must have clauses in their contracts "make my name on all promotional materials obnoxiously huge:
