Finding Dory. Good enough. Wish the colours were better as the muted underwater look doesn't look the best. Story was OK, still good to see but as you know sort of what to expect, it doesn't have the wow of the original. Sameish storyline from memory

Independence Day is the absolute worst and The Shallows is by far the best.  Emmerich has completely lost it, talent wise (not that he had much to begin with, but for the sake of argument, ID4 was quite fun), and Blake Lively, who I never though much of, is a revelation.

I just finished the first two episodes of Stranger Things and it is great.  Has a Spielberg feel to it.

For sure.  Poltergeist meets ET meets Goonies.

So good.

I'm a little slow on the draw for new films these days.
I think I've gotten too jaded.
When I first saw the trailer for Chappie, I though it was gonna to be some sorta hybrid/retread of Short Circuit and Robocop.
How wrong I was.
I can't say enough good things about this Blomkamp masterpiece.
It just blew me away.
So, I just had to snag one of these Swiss teasers I've seen on EMP.
Thanks, Bruce!

Was better than theatrical for sure. Made some stuff make sense.

Funny part about that was one of my complaints about the theatrical cut was that the movie was too long.

The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014). Far from the greatest poster in the world, but a nice film, nonetheless, with Helen Mirren, and produced by S. Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey and directed by Lasse Hallstrom.

It was shot in France and the Netherlands.

Sully (2016)

About the pilot and story of the ditching of the plane in the Hudson River

It was OK. After seeing it, it seemed a bit like a documentary though I guess it was a story. It focussed heavily on the investigation by the authorities on his decision to ditch. Though there was sufficient recreation of the incident to satisfy.

It was polished cinematically, some of the acting not that good, though Tom Hanks did a great job playing the uncharismatic Sully, uncharismatically. Tom Thanks is looking quite old from what I remember. The movie was, don't know how to describe, like stuck in second gear, a bit lacking any excitement. The ending was forgettable, in fact I forgot it already and that was less than two hours ago.

A couple weeks ago, I watched Cleopatra (1963), the epic with Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison and a cast of thousands. I knew it was always described as a spectacle and in that regard it didnt disappoint. BUT I found the endless theatrical-like speeches (from Burton, especially) and lack of action mind-numbing and "draggy" at times.

Costumes, sets, music and photography were all top notch. Taylor as Cleopatra was the obvious choice in the early 60s, but I couldnt help to notice that some of her wardrobe and hairstyles also hinted to that decade, rather than the time it was set. She did look amazing, tho, no doubt about it. And I was also impressed with Roddy McDowell as Octavian.

"A United Kingdom" at the opening gala of the London Film Festival -  set in the years before Botswana's independence, a true story about a tribal King and his relationship/marriage to a white woman. Very moving.

Mark.
