As mentioned on MOPO, rare UK three sheet for the 1927 Hitchcock film "The Ring" recently sold for £5,000 ($7500):

I'd have to get those restored for the proper spelling - "coloured"  ;)

I usually don't cate for Uni Monster stuff but this poster outstanding... Nice symmetry and the transition down actually tells quite a story...

Compared to the re-release (with some digital restoration to both).  Anybody have a pic of the daybill?

Regardless of spelling, hopefully the Commonwealth countries had less of this:

The Frankenstein daybill is very similar to the US insert.  There is an image of it in Gresham's Children of the Night book but I don't know if any images are online...

There is just something wrong about those 'lively' greens, yellows and oranges splashed under the Monster's mug on the insert

I wonder if Mel can do a side by side, with both of them the same size...?

I think what makes the daybill is the fact that the Monster is the proper colour (as we generally accept him to be) and thus looks much more menacing

Also, the original Monster was not green (or teal in the case of the daybill :))... that seems to be a more modern re-interpretation from people who grew up with only a B&W film to go by.  The lobbies clearly show the Monster to be of normal skin color -- albeit pale from his recently overcome condition (i.e. being dead).

Nah makes him seem too alive - he's gotta be corpse coloured!

I swear there is a behind the scenes video shot in colour that shows the makeup really is green/blue...just gotta find it!

I am mistaken - it's actually a 16mm film from Karloff family but for Son of Frankenstein

But he's still green!  ;)

I don't think color makeup shots for a B&W film mean anything.  I've seen some dreadful combos like pink shirt and green coat because the shades look 'right' when filmed.

Good point Jay.

Chris does have a point, though, Franky eventually became "green" in marketing materials by his later appearances...

But I still maintain that during the time that daybill was produced, he was still "white".  If anything, this is the first example of Aussie artists f'ing things up when attempting to copy other country's artwork! ;D

So on this logic Frankenstein's monster is just black + white?

No, no, no - another example of improving another country's artwork.  Those Aussie child labourer artists are very creative

This is such a great reference clip.

Even tho this home movie was shot during Son Of Frank, (and from other material Ive read on Jack Pierce and his creation of the skin tone for the monster's makeup), this grey-green pallor is what Pierce came up with, and is representative of the Monster's coloring, (in all the Frankie movies) that photographed best in B/W.  ;)

Another very cool Uni horror poster, for House Of Dracula and an actual color photo of Lon Chaney Jr, in makeup as the Wolf Man, from that film:
