Yeah, Mattias is going to go nuts for that one...

Indeed Matt. Too bad I wasn't even collecting when Heritage sold that copy for $600.
I remember seeing another one sold on ebay around 2008 for something more than $1000. Next one will be mine maybe...

It sounds like a pizza...''yes, I'll have a ''PIPITONE''

For my digital collection I'm scanning in some of the sensational posters of yesteryear from the early Christies sales, organized by Bruce and Company.

You can buy these catalogs here for $40:

http://www.emovieposter.com/books/books.php?section=catalog

The posters themselves (and all images thereof), of course, have been in the public domain for several decades.  (In fact most of them immediately fell into the public domain when they were first distributed/published because they were not properly copyrighted).

Many of these posters never reappeared at auction and, consequently, no good images of them can be found on the Internet.

Devil Is A Woman, The (1935 US 1S):

Frankenstein (1935 Spanish 1S):

Devil Dogs of War (1935 US 3S):

Phantom of the Opera (1925 US 1S):

Another Phantom 1S:

Mel, I spared no expense in the printing of those catalogs, which unlike the majority of color books, were NOT printed in Hong Kong, but right here in the U.S.

Would you agree that digital images do not completely do just to what you view directly on the printed page?

Yes, quality is quite good.

Here's an image of the only surviving one sheet of Dr. Jekyll (1931):

First time I've seen the three sheet for Glass Key (1942 US 3S):

Captain of the Guard (1930 US 1S): Previously posted but this is a better image:

Fredric March is outstanding in that film (as he is in every single film). And I would die-kill-you-name-it for that poster. Lucky those who at least were able to see the poster ''live''

 ;)

I was just thinking you need to have somebody rescan these books for your auction history pages.  The images on your site that match up are no comparison.  I got my books today and am floored.  I was expecting the low res ones from the auction history.  This was a great buy! Thanks Bruce...

You are right that those are dreadful old scans. We HAVE re-scanned everything, and that is one of the coming major projects, where we re-upload all the book and auction catalogs with great new images. PLUS I have many tens of thousands of images of items I sold in the pre-computer days, and I will be at some future time uploading them as well!

Why rescan from the catalogs? Why not digitize your photographs of the posters?

We DON'T scan "from the catalogs". The posters were all shot on 4" x 5" color transparencies, and we have scanned THOSE, and delivers incredible quality, as you will see.

But isn't it an incredible deal to get those six catalogs for $40? That's what just TWO of them cost originally (and soon they will be raised to $60, which is still half original retail).

And I assume you notice that a goodly number of the items DID go into collections 18 to 23 years ago and have still not resurfaced!

Yes, I previously noted that many of these posters never resurfaced.

Per request of Charlie "PosterMan": After Midnight (1933 US 1S):
