Silent films posters suck more than the worst mondo print ever made ;)

I know Mitch has been in here before and we say try doing some kind of customer appreciation deal or whatever to show that they do appreciate those of us who've been around for a while now ..

I just saw this posted about an artist .. For those who dont know John Doe made a print Miss Universe that sold for something like $100-150(?)ish and now they go for $600+ for regulars and even more for variants.

Quote
Not sure if any of you caught this but from John Doe's newsletter

...and as people are still resorting to paying huge sums of money for Miss Universe prints on the secondary, and don't get me wrong, I know times are hard and i don't begrudge anybody making an extra bit of cash. However i want to somehow reward people that have resisted and hung on to their print. I'm still not sure how its gonna work yet, or what you'll be entitled to (maybe an exclusive, a freebie, money off, whatever), but the idea is that if you still have an original purchase (and we've got all transaction records - so no fibbing) - framed - on your wall, then you'll send pics in and you'll be entitled. NO PHOTOSHOPPING! Don't start sending pics in yet though. More details in the next newsletter.

Sorry, but I had to delete the extra smileys - they were fucking up my browsing experience and slowing down my browser.

No I didnt get the point, you feel what you collect is all that matters in the world of collectibles and bad mouth everything else. YOU may not like modern posters or art prints, but there are many others that do, there is no reason to bad mouth the side of the hobby you have no interest in.

Simply do not read or contribute to something you have no care for.

One of several new Mondo releases, this one for Lon Chaney's THE UNHOLY THREE (1925). Being a huge Chaney fan, this does nothing for me and looks like it was quickly cobbled together, IMO. The profile of Chaney as old lady, Mrs. O'Grady, is not well executed either. The nose looks like a huge lump on her face.

A real opportunity lost on this one (again, in my view ;) )

Plus, how young is Chaney in that photograph?  Couldn't they have found one from the films period?

I'm pretty sure that is an image of Chaney from the '25 version. It looks right to me.

here's another image i found from that version:

And from the 1930 version:

With regard to the poster, the stark white eye cut out is very distracting, too, IMO.

I like these two.

UNHOLY 3 is the absolute pits.  What a shame. I could only imagine what Ansin would have done with that assignment...

Good question. Rooting dragons is risky business..

If they had used an illustrative, art-deco approach with this title, it would be sold out.
As it stands, I think it's a big misfire.

Being released tomorrow. All 3 of these look like they were quickly thrown together, IMO. The ROCKY III poster ("eye of the tiger" idea understood), looks particularly strange, with the image of (Rocky's) gloved arm emerging from the throat of that tiger. I can see using some combination of these visual elements, but does this one work?  :-\

Super pass on all 3!!!  It's extremely disappointing that this is the best these artists could do with Rashomon and Paths of Glory.

Really?

I can't imagine any of these being considered art. They look like something thrown together in a few minutes with Photoshop.

I guess the red dot (the letter O) over Toshiro Mifune's eye and the few concentric circles were supposed to suggest that some "creative or artistic" thought went into this.    uhno
