I know that people have been begging for a Stout BttF, but I really don't get why... It's not a flick that's really begging for a collage.  I'd much rather see other artists attempt the title.

yes. i could do a stout bttf.

That BTTF triptych lacks character.
Absolutely boring.

Well said Archie, a Stout collage would be wasted on BTTF in my opinion, I'd rather see a BTTF Ansin or Taylor.

I wasn't going to buy, but tried to load up the site to have a look and the site wouldn't load at all for me. First time that's happened...on the old site it would normally hang during checkout, but never on actually loading the shop!

Cool poster.  I probably would've made it to the cinema and picked one up had someone mentioned this special midnight giveaway earlier.  :'(

If you have an IMAX nearby Id stop by and see if they still have some left. I was able to pick up mine this afternoon when I went to see the movie. If I had to have gone to the midnight showing I wouldnt have gotten them.. I have to work .. So going to a midnight movie on a Thursday just isnt in the cards for me.

Well, without going through 150 pages of posts on the hamster wheel run expresso site, this is what I have found so far, no clue if any get an online drop

Stout - Wrath of Khan 280/635
Ansin - Brazil 175/375 (Uh, Ansin numbers need to climb, watch for Ansin stuff to out price Stouts in the long run, you heard it here first).
Phantom City - A Trip to the Moon 145
Silence TV - Akira 90
Kako - War of the Worlds - 120
Tong - Forbidden Planet - 225
Kilian Eng - Dune 175
Slater - Fountain 150
Iron Jaiden - Fly 75
Moss - Doctor Who 70
Whalen - Duck Dodgers 320

There was a Ming that was in one word awesome, I assume that is a 1/1.

If I remember right .. I believe I read that there was supposed to be 40+ pieces at the show, including originals.

Its a little Nagel in nature but I wouldnt mind snagging that Drake .. I heard that Mitch owns! Talk about a conflict of interest :P

As for the prints at this show.. I think I liked WotW the best.. I think Brazil is amazing work .. Just not a movie for me and I agree with you Dale .. Ansins work is surpassing Stouts IMHO and due to the low print runs and tons of due hype his prices will continue to go up..

Although if you notice it seems like Stouts work is getting "cleaner" and making it more appealing, his run sizes and the movies they have been giving him lately havent been the best choices IMHO .. This years hes done.. The FP, Kill Bill (somewhat exclusive with the screening), Akira (MMM Exclusive), Capt America (not the best print hes put out and I am a Marvel fan), Assault on Precinct 13 .. I mean come on .. they even made 2 separate releases for that print :() and now Treks WoK .. Now Some may love the last one .. but Im not a huge Trekkie .. Although I do have Taylors ST piece that one is just cool artwork .. I couldnt care less about the movie.

Now look at Ansins latest Mondo Works .. Planet of the Apes, Both Tron films, Dracula, Mummy, Cronos (an acquired taste for some) .. Just on the heals of his works from last year ... which had a great line up as well .. and they are keeping his print runs low ..

This make mes think of two different business strategies..  Quantity vs. Quality .. You choose which artist falls into which category.

This is the exact kind of post that made me want to join the forum. Lots of wild speculation, unchecked claims, etc....

Very Nagel. I'll assume the second part is a joke.

The FP,

He was commissioned by the filmmakers, not Mondo.

Kill Bill (somewhat exclusive with the screening)

Can't imagine there's a complaint about subject matter here.

Akira (MMM Exclusive)

Again, plenty big movie (which Tyler chose), small run, don't know how this works with your argument.

Capt America (not the best print hes put out and I am a Marvel fan)

Maybe you don't like the print, but you admit that you thought it was a good hire when it comes to subject matter.

Assault on Precinct 13 .. I mean come on .. they even made 2 separate releases for that print :()

Tyler asked to do this one.

and now Treks WoK .. Now Some may love the last one .. but Im not a huge Trekkie .. Although I do have Taylors ST piece that one is just cool artwork .. I couldnt care less about the movie.

That's fine, you may not like it, but it's one of the biggest sci-fi films of all time. Like, no shit, Plant of the Apes level.

It's an odd world we live in where Kill Bill, Akira, Captain America, and Wrath of Khan are considered small movies not worth Tyler's time, or second-class jobs, or whatever is being argued here. As for the other two, he wanted to do them, and we have nothing but appreciation and love for Tyler, so we were more than happy to oblige.

You seem to think there is some veiled strategy at play here, which there just isn't. We give both artists the jobs they like to do. Weird argument, seriously.

I have to say, I agree with Mitch on this one.  Aside from The FP (which was Tyler's personal decision), Kill Bill, Akira and Assault are great titles.  Captain America was a shitty movie, but I'm sure it sounded great on paper.  Could have been great.  I don't understand the argument.  Martin also had his shitty movie with Tron Legacy (again, no way of knowing beforehand), Cronos is unknown to most and he's the go to guy on Universal's Famous Monsters (he's so good at them, why give them to someone else?  I'm sure Tyler would agree.)  So that just leaves Planet of the Apes.

It looks pretty even from where I stand.

Let's face it, when it comes to Stout you are standing pretty close to the butt-kissing range and are not the most objective of observers when it comes to his work.

Though, I'm not saying that you are wrong in this case, except on Assault, which is clearly a minor title no matter how you cut it.

I never meant to imply that there was any "strategy" or someone was actually getting "better movies" ..  I only meant that when you compare the titles to one another that there is a difference (even if its only perceived by myself:P) .. Sure Kill Bill And Akira are cult hits and you dont expect anything less than a fan frenzy .. BUT .. Compared to "Classics" like Dracula and Mummy .. Those Universal classics have long term appeal.. and Im sure a lot of my thoughts are just based up my personal opinions not just wild speculation. ;) I personally dont feel QT is a great director .. there I said it .. Flame me all you want. :P I do however think hes a talented writer! True Romance is still one of my favorite films to this day.

As for the small (exclusive) run of something like Akira .. Its basically the same argument as Kill Bill .. Other than the cult fans of Anime I don't see this one holding up another 50+ years .. Its like comparing Rocky Horror Picture Show to Dracula .. Sure RHPS has screenings to this day and its a fun film (that I do enjoy myself) BUT .. When you put it up against true classic works .. It falls on its face ..

I cant argue for Star Trek movies or fans .. There just like the whole crazy world of Star Wars fans .. CRAZY! ;) .. That series will live on forever!! :P But I personally think BSG is better than ST.. Once again, commence flaming! :)

Also, I never said anything was not worth Tylers time .. I think every movie should have a new poster! there's always some fan out there that will enjoy it! I have to admit that based upon personal opinions about films and the fact that overall I enjoy Ansin's work over Stouts that my thoughts were not really based on any sort of fact .. just thoughts and preferences about the films. Ive been told that I should calm down, that I'm too passionate .. Which I think is crazy .. I think that some people should be more passionate!! I may not like all of the same movies and artists that everyone else does but I love the idea of it all! I love all of the new artwork even the ones that I can live without. Personally I wish you could have multiple artists on all the movies you guys make posters for. That way the TS fans get their fix, the IJ fans get theirs and people like me can get their Ansin love going on! ;)

Oh and as for the Drake piece .. I hope my comment about it being "Nagel" like wasnt taken as a negative comment.. I own a Nagel and a Mukai .. I bought them back in the early 90's and I am a fan of their work. So I wasnt joking about that.. Nor was I joking when I said that I had read somewhere that you (Mitch) owned the piece. I was teasing with the "conflict of interest" line though. :) I was just jealous, if in fact you do own it.

QT is a dick, well he would be but even small shrivelled Dicks are not as disgusting as him.

THERE I SAID IT... ;)

I'm pretty certain Akira will still be recognized in 50 years. It's already 24 years old and has been long established as an influential and important film, not only within the Anime genre, but outside it too.

As I don't follow these posters, which version of Assault on Precinct 13 was it? the Carpenter would be considered a pretty important Genre film and IMHO by far the best in the list above.

It was the Carpenter version and yep, I agree, definitely an important genre film. Probably my favourite Carpenter film after The Thing and Halloween (although I also love Big Trouble, They Live and Escape from NY)

I had to look back at what I posted here regarding Carpenter and looks like I'm consistent :D http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,2607.0.html
