The problem with Durieux is that his work looks very good (sometimes exceptional) from afar, and very shitty up close. The guy is without a doubt talented, but I hate this dot matrix printing style of his. I probably own 10 or so prints of his, and they all have the same 1980 Epson printer look.

I don't think you mean dot matrix.
I think what you are refering too is how he uses and manipulates things like simple shapes and lines to convey an extra color screen that isn't there.
If you think about it, its pretty amazing...his prints that have say 5 screens look like they have 8-10 screens because of how he designs...same way with this psuedo shading and sense of light. I have talked to a few graphic designers (from different states who don't know each other) that all are blown away at how he manages to manipulate the medium.
But point taken, however, I think it is designed to look fuller in a sense when you take the piece in as a whole. Does that makes sense?
