Re-buying posters you already own
« on: December 08, 2010, 06:59:22 PM »
Do u guys ever buy posters twice to make sure no one else gets them?

I know it sounds a little vain, but I just found myself buying 2 somewhat rare posters I already own just to make sure no one else gets them.  Has it ever happen to you and how sick am I?

Occasionally I will buy extras of posters -- if dirt cheap -- that I think will appreciate considerably in value.
But to buy just to keep out of other collector's hands...that IS sick, T.  mesmrized

It MAY be time for an intervention. T, do you refer to your posters as "your precious"?

Well, I'll tell you one, but not the other.  I just re-bought a folded poster of Duel on Heritage, even thought I own a mint rolled one.  I paid more for my rolled one, and I wasn't going to let the Heritage one go for so cheap.  This poster never comes up for sale and I wanted to make sure it would remain one of my Spielberg collection's rarities.

You people are mean.  There is no love to be found in these parts.  You're the kind of people who would trip an old man with a cane.  I feel sorry for all of you.

Thierry, I think you should merge this thread with 'The competition of it all' one I started.  Primo fodder for that discussion...cause this is pretty hard core, my friend.

I already made donations to MPF a while back, and look what it got me.  Zero, nichts, nada, rien, nihil.

And I made 5 donations to Obama a few months ago.  Again: NOTHING!!!  A spineless president who gives in to the GOP.

So no more donations :)

They are not not mean. They just have their own poster collecting issues.

I think that by definition, anyone that collects movie posters, needs help.  8)

Bump...

An interesting question you asked here, T.

These years later, have others (or newer members) done it for the same reason?

I haven't.

For me finding a rare poster at a great price is always a thrill, so when I do stumble across a title I have that I know is at a steal of a price I'll usually buy it. I find it partly satisfies me as a collector and partly satisfies me from a potential future re-sale. I try not to go too crazy; I'd have doubles of maybe 5% of my posters.

For all the married collectors out there, you'll understand that it is worth the investment in duplicate titles just in case the wife decides one day that "we" should sell of some of "our" collection!
