Sigs from Offaleater
« on: December 05, 2010, 12:24:38 AM »
As posted elsewhere, Christopher Lee came into the store I worked in, while in Sydney for one of the new Star Wars films.
i got a call over the intercom, ARI COME UPSTAIRS DRACULA HAS ARRIVED.

Linda Blair, is close to a good friend of mine and she sent me some stuff once.

Some Plan 9 thing, bought off ebay years ago, before I knew better, I assume its OK, probably at a convention or something, its the cop

Bit of hammer Glamour

leatherface (as with the plan 9 I am not 100% sure) has a COA for what thats worth.

From a good friend, who you can probably guess, a true treasure as Cushing has been my favourite actor since I was a kid

My favourite signature, I met David Gulpilil by accident waiting (for the above mentioned Phil) in China Town, Sydney, he invited me to his table for a beer, I didnt even recognise him for a while, when Phil arrived he whispered (is that?) I nodded, we had a nice chat, and a few beers, and he gave me this signed beer coaster, and anyone who knows his story, will know how this makes it more collectable.
if you dont know the name, you WILL know him. http://www.gulpilil.com/

From the set of MARK OF THE ASTRO ZOMBIES

Ted V Mikels, Tura Satana and Brinke Stevens on the back of my shooting script

Great stuff Ari.  I love the Keoma pieces.  That is such an underrated western, IMO.  I love the music and surreal atmosphere.

Thanks.  You know what you did.

I agree, KEOMA is a great movie, in fact in my top three Westerns of all time. And Enzo is still making films, AND so is Franco.

Can anyone, presumably our UK or Aussie members guess who these are from, obtained in person in the early 80's

If you get one, the others might make sense (except one which shouldn't be there but has a funny story)

Some books.

I took my daughter a a years ago to a geeky expo thingy, everyone doing cosplay and stuff, she went as some obscure manga character I'd never heard of, I went as a scruffy time traveling detective from the 1940's, ie, no costume. Anyway while I was roaming around while she did her thing, I saw this bloke and thought why not. Still haven't read the darn thing, so fingers crossed I actually like it.

Nice gift from a nice friend, a friend of a friend of Ray Bradburys.

One of the my favourite things, signed by HG LEWIS to the author, then signed by the author to me,

More later.

This hasn't arrived yet, in fact was taken today.

A friend of mine is part of a horror convention in Melbourne, one of the guests is Shane Briant, and as a bit of a hammer fan, my friend got him to sign a pic for me... Here's a pic of Mr Briant holding the pic.. ;)

About the only one I think I can read is Curtly Walsh? If so, since when do/did you collect (anything) sporting...

I met Shane about two years back at a film festival in Whitby. What a great guy, nothing is too much trouble.
He was walking around in a Dracula Cape, hamming it up. If I find the pic I'll post it...

I'm not doing very well with the autograph books though... :-\

Either that's a nickname or auto correct got you, as surname is correct.

So I'll assume you meant Courtney Walsh, which is correct.

I don't collect sport stuff, but as a kid played cricket and was a fan. The West Indies team came to town and played against the local lads about 83 I think, all the greats as this was their golden era.

I can't remember who is who on these pages now, I need to search the team and put names to them (again) viv Richards was there, and one of them is Sir Garry Sobers, who was coaching or managing them at the time.

The funny one is the bottom right corner, of the second pic. I was running around getting every black man I saw to sign, after he signed I realised he had signed Kanga Cricket, which some Aussies may remember was a new kids version of cricket they were trying to promote in school, he wasn't a windy but some Aussie bloke, who happened to be black.... Oops...

The buggers after the match picked up local girls and did whatever they do with local girls ;)

Howzat?

I got my bowlers mixed up, was thinking about Curtly Ambrose at the same time as looking that signature of Courtney Walsh.

Wild stab I'd say the first one is of Clive Lloyd who did not play for the WI when they played West Australia Country in 1984 at the Corrigin Oval (which is probably the one you were talking about), however as he was Team Captain it is possible he was there.

Far right second image is Desmond Haynes, the rest I have no idea.

Yessiree pulling a girl after cricket was no problems for the WI's. I have met a lot of cricketers over the years and Brian Lara was definitely the ladies man, a gentleman to talk to and despite being short 5'7" made up for it elsewhere...so they say.

Courtney Walsh was my guess too.
Was he playing in the 80's though?
Maybe that's the "curve" ball Ari mentioned?

Hmm, it was in Albany, centennial oval. But probably the same tour, unless it has another name I haven't heard before.

Think your right re Clive Lloyd.
I did years ago search and find them all and forgot to write notes thinking I'd remember, I'll ask my father one time, he would know.

Edit, yeah it's Courtney Walsh, don't know if he usually played, but did for this tour.

The curve ball, see above post re kanga cricket.

That makes a difference (sort of), they played a 50 over match at Centennial Oval, Albany in December 1981

Sig will be Clive Lloyd who did play in that match, as did Desmond Haynes.

The other signatures I am none the wiser as I can't really make them out, even squinting. However if it helps, the others who played in that match were Bacchus, Gomes, Murray, Logie, Dujon, Clarke, Croft, Joseph and Garner.

Ahh yeah that would be it, I was 8 years old. Thanks, I'll take a closer look with those names.
Was quite amazing for a young country lad seeing these blokes only seen on television, on the local oval where we played ourselves.

Hmmm last night during a break in the one-day cricket match due to rain, Aus v Sri Lanka they replayed an old one-day match between West Indies vs Aust, 1981, almost all those players were playing...

Coincidence? I think not, Big Brother is watching this forum.

Be afraid, be very afraid...

Happy Happy days.

Everyone knows Sim Branaghan and his seminal tome to British Film Posters.

http://www.palgrave.com/page/detail/british-film-posters-an-illustrated-history-sim-branaghan/?K=9781844572212

If you Don't own it, 1) SHAME, 2) its OK, just BUY IT NOW.

Anyway......

Some of the longer time forum members or collectors will remember Steve Guariento.
I mentioned a while back he had written a Science Fiction novel.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/S.M.-Guariento/e/B00OTDSOAC/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_pop_1/280-9939956-6783003

I am lucky enough to call these people friends, and even luckier to be able to add something personal to each of their books in my collection, a postcard from each author.
I have obscured the personal text, in fear of incrimination.
But both cards also are 100% perfect for me and their books.
I collect Hammer posters, and its the quad, so perfect to sit in Sims book.
I collect both SF and Penguin books, so, well how could it have been better chosen?

anyway.
I am HAPPY,
thanks to two true gentlemen.

From Steve

and Sim

Never.

I NEVER sell books anyway. Books beat posters for me hands down. Plus these are obviously special.

I want first dibs on your Professor Powers sig!

In my will perhaps. I prefer this to a genuine BR insert.
