I don't know if any of you follow MoPo - I would expect so. Last week I had a bit of a tussle with them regarding this issue. Granted, I was dramatic as usual, but it was essentially an old versus new debate. You may want to check it out.
I agree that the forum should not be split between old and new, vintage or modern, or any such thing. If there are folks that want to stick with only vintage material, that's what MoPo is for really. They don't need to come here for that. Same thing is true for modern posters. For the most part, MPF is all about modern and hypermodern material. Again, splitting our fourm would be redundant of MPF. Finally, there's Ari's place at NS4. Lot's of vintage material, but a bit off-beat to a lot of the "classic" folks out there. But, there's also collectors of modern and hypermodern material there too.
I think the reminder from this discussion is that APF's core is to provide a forum for discussion of all types of posters. I do agree, obviously, with separate sections for various collecting areas the beginnings of which we already have. The only reason that we separate these areas is that to lump them together would be too unwieldy for review. Imagine the general discussion group - only one for all types of posters. What a mess that would be. But, it's unfortunate that we couldn't do that, because I think it's cool for collectors of one type of poster to see the interests of collectors of other types of posters. For want of a better way to do it, those with such interest need only click in one of the other areas. Further separating it into old and new isn't needed.
Now, if the posts actually got to the point of being so numerous that another split would be needed to manage it, then perhaps the old/new thing would work. But, for now, I think we have enough topics. Actually, too many topics, and I'll be working to merge and set up some other ones based on the suggestions that have been made so far.
Happy new year!!!!! (it's 11:34 p.m. where I am at).
