He also just sold two Blade Runner variants for $1500 each.  Which ticks me off more than a little, since mine arrive damaged(compression marks from Mondo rolling the poster to put it in the shipping tube) and he refused to send a replacement - saying that they 'were beyond sold out'.  Scumbag... and a shit artist to boot...

Really?  Wow, that really sucks.  I would really piss me off too.  Especially since he's been selling them.  Did u call him on it?

No, but I might mention it on the expresso beans Blade Runner thread that he ever-so-not-subtlety used as for sale thread.

The Stouts continue to rise in price. Will it all end in tears if/when the balloon pops?

Even if the Mondo bubble burst .. I think it will depend on the artist .. If TS continues to move forward to increase his visibility and in a way become the next Shepard Fairy his older prints Mondo or not may still go up .. BUT .. Other than a few odd ones (like the Lebowski) Most of TS's print that are not Mondo related sort of bomb.. Its almost as if they need each other at this point. Even with the new Marvel stuff .. It seems like to me (from what I read online) that Marvel works with Mondo and they work with TS.. Kind of treating him like an in-house artist .. If that is the case then I say thats bad for TS, he needs to pull away and try to get some other big clients (like Marvel, OMG! BIG!) Then maybe he can diversify a little. Kind of like Ansin .. If he never worked for Mondo again hed still be doing some major commercial work and through that his name would stay known and popular and his prints would (i assume) at least maintain value if not increase over time.

Then we get back to why we all collect posters, nostalgia. There is a whole generation of collectors now that know and love Mondo and all of their artist and they will over the next 10+ years dictate the market.  As some get older and get real jobs they will want what they couldnt afford before and they will finally have the money to spend so the upward arc on TS prints may continue up .. Im sure it will plateau at some point but if the market dries up a little then I would expect a few spikes every once and a while.

people forget the different veriations of loss of value.

#1 cherry picking the best of them as examples that will continue to rise in value is a misnomer & does not reflect the complete market.. For every copy of the best, there are dozens of others that are not selling as I see them listed & relisted on ebay

#2 let's say a $1000 poster doesn't go down in dollar amount, but over the next 10 years it doesn't increase. did you:
A) lose nothing
B) lost quite a bit

buzzzer
the answer is:
B) lost quite a bit
which is obvious as invested at even low rates your $$ should approximately double every 10 years, so a poster worth $1000 in 2011 and still worth $1000 in 2021 is a loss of $1000+/-

but don't be afraid. you can always use this line.. "at least I have something to look at"

Unless the joy of having it and looking at it is worth more than the financial loss.
We don't invest in Televisions or computers either.
Only way to invest in posters is to buy and sell for more, i.e, become a dealer (apparently a bad word to some).

I for one am glad that I don't look at posters as an investment.
It ruins the joy of collecting.
