Todd Spoor, one of the co-founders of MPGrading, lives right around the corner from me, and I had the opportunity to visit his home (he also has an incredible poster collection, with 40x60s and Italian 2 and 4 foglios being his loves) and grading studio a couple times. I wonder what happened? I guess the need or desire for their kind of service never caught on sufficiently enough.

And then there was always that discussion that a poster that might be graded an 8 or 9, and certified as such by MpGrading, could suddenly drop in that grading, were it bumped on the edge of a table, to move it out of the way, when the next poster was to be graded.

So the idea was cool, but maintaining the assigned grade would have been tough, when things like slight mishandling could affect it.
