I was watching a bit of T.V. at the beginning of the week, and a news item came on about a guy from my region who had been arrested and was going to prison. Nothing out of the ordinary you would think, only it was for possession of over 50,000 items of Special Delivery mail!! Apparently he had all this stashed at his house, there was that much stuff it had over flowed into his mothers house. Now last year at the sorting office I usually pick my mail up at, there was strange goings on with the staff, and police cars at the sorting office. I eventually found out ( off the record ) that the guy who worked behind the counter had been caught with "a large amount of unopened mail at his house" and procedures were taking place? This is two incidents from my region, so what does that pan out like across the U.K. and what happens to the mail they recover?? I was told it is sent to Ireland opened, and sold off!!!! So if you think you are getting a bargin from Ireland it may have been someone else's. Why don't they send them to the address on the Parcel? The Royal Mail a right bunch of.........................

Why would someone hoard mail and leave it unopened?!
Unless of course they were a very lazy mail man...

It goes on undiscovered because the government runs it!
Aren't you glad to know that soon the government will run health care, and lots more big companies like Government Motors, as they start all failing?
Then everything will run as efficiently and as honestly as the Post Office!

That's also the point Chris, they do. All the mail sent to Ireland is opened and auctioned off. Everything from toasters to posters.

Imagine that, a genuine original Frankenstein toaster.

That must be a huge toaster to fit a Frankenstein in it

That must be a huge toaster to fit a Frankenstein in it It's wiring it up to the lightning conductor that's the tricky part.

Monopolies that exist by the barrel of a gun will always produce unwanted affects such as these. Sigh...

This has happened a few times here in Denmark too. In a recent case it was the caretaker for some apartments who called the police. Because of some water damage he had to access several boxrooms and in one belonging to a local mailmanhe found a large number of sacks with unopened mail. Apparently, every time the mailman got tired walking his route, he would just go home and dump the remaining mail in his boxroom. Last year they also caught a whole family red-handed. They had a small cleaning company that had a contract to clean several post offices. Seems they cleaned out shelves in the post offices too on a regular basis. The police arrested them while they were cleaning an office and found several un-opened parcels containing laptops, books, DVDs, and other electronic equipment they had just lifted from their workplace.

I worked a case against a FedEx employee who would deliver other customers packages to his own storage unit that he rented...he actually rented two of them and they were packed full of packages. He would open and go through the packages, taking the valuable stuff and pawning it. He got caught by forging and cashing corporate checks in his name. What a dumb ass! I never did come across any posters though. We had to inventory everything and it was released back to Fed Ex for them to track down the customers.

Amazing what goes on. I wish they sent them to the people who the item was meant for in this country. But their reasoning is they will have been paid out, so the items are auctioned off, and the proceeds go to..... Which means someone else has my Frankenstein stills...

similar thing happened with UPS
posted on MOPO
Thu, 12 Mar 2009 06:23:14 -0700 Hello from France,
As some of you are aware, 5 years ago I've had a "problem" with UPS shipping : I sent 8 Audrey Hepburn's posters to Los Angeles via UPS for a total value of 38.000 Euros. It was a strong tube of 5 feet long. The buyer received a shoe box containing rolls of paper towels .... After 2 proceedings, UPS was forced to pay me 38.000 Euros. Yesterday the 8 posters were sold at Christie's South Kensington (Lots 166, 169, 170, 174, 177, 178, 179 and 180). Being an honest person, I informed UPS of the sale, and they lodged a complaint for stealing against Christies.
Today, I've learned who the consignor of these posters was.... And the winner is ..........................U P S
Yes, incredible but true, your eyes don't lie. I just spoke with the french police agent who interviewed me, and she told me that the seller is a UPS subsidiary .....
As soon as I can get more info, I'll keep you informed.
Sincerely
Dominique BESSON

Dominique, That has to be the one of the ultimate horror stories. Here's hoping it all worked out. At 2009 conversion rates, Christies sold those posters, in total, for 18,002.74 euros. What was the final outcome? Did the investigation uncover an individual that was prosecuted?
