I believe modern photographic posters are an abomination. Sometimes they give me nightmares as I sleep thinking about Tom Cruise big head next to another actors big head.

Illustrated posters, with their often fantasmagorical false advertising, are supremely superior (apart from the paper and the ink) and I sleep with a smile on my face thinking of them, especially, Barbarella

Can film posters still be considered truly aesthetic since the introduction of digital technology or are they now just an advertising tool?

How is that worthy of being a dissertation topic?!

I quite like this 1935 Lost City photographic one sheet that HA sold for $235 last week.  Photographic posters don't have to suck!

I gotta think that the value of modern illustrated printed posters is going to tank. These digital images look great on the video monitors at bus stops. Who's going to want to collect the physical posters once everyone gets used to these?

I was scrounging around for exceptional MPs I could use to pimp our hobby on Reddit and ran across this "phone booth" MP.
Pretty striking IMO and just as good as illustrated.

I ended up using an HP lenticular on Reddit.

I like these photo MPs from my current moderns:

Pretty good but doesn't match the partially illustrated original:
