I am interested in seeing a prequel I just hope it is not to glossed over. The recent remakes (Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw) were too MTV for me. BTW what is NS4?

This is the first time I heard they were making a prequel. I hope they don't let me down since I am a big fan of the 82 film.

Looks to me like more of a remake of Carpenter's version as opposed to a prequel. Probably with shitty CGI effects.

not very impressed with it, he just leeched off of carpenters ideas and characters (badly i might add). the whole thing felt so familiar it bugged me, the camp looked so much alike it was annoying. he copied the most intense scene of carpenters but subtly changed it (i wont spoil for those who haven't seen) and took away all the suspense as well. I'm trying pretty hard to think of one memorable line and i cant, i really didn't care if the whole camp died. I also really didn't care for the way the "Thing" made its first appearance.
not to bash just my honest opinion

Honest opinion taken, Evan, and disagreed with. I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie. But I'm a minority, a very small minority, since most people didn't like it. I may just be a sucker for this kind of movies. But I will stand my ground and say that I had a great time, so did the 3 other guys who saw it with me. Maybe we're idiots, plain and simple.

I was hoping T was right .. But I have to agree with Evan on this one .. I watched this last night and felt like I was watching a remake of the '82 version instead of a prequel .. (minus the initial discovery) .. Not to say it was bad .. It was good .. But not different enough to stand on it own merit in my opinion

Have to say,i thought this was really good,it evoked all of the tension and feel of the Carpenter without going mad on cgi.. I can completely understand those who felt a little underwhelmed, but as far as a Friday night out..I`ve had worse..

I saw absolutely zero reason for this movie to exist. I watched the original for the first time in preparation for this prequel. Where can I get a job that pays millions of dollars to say "Well this happened in the first movie, and we can assume the exact same thing happened to the first camp it was at...let's make a movie about the exact same series of events!". I could make movies like that all day long if I were getting paid good for it. This movie just didn't need to happen. The practical effects were minimal and everyone was praising the fact that there were a lot of them. I enjoyed the practical effects of the first one, they were great. For me, I don't want to see the same movies over and over. Which is the wrong attitude to have and like movies in this day and age. Remake, remake, remake, prequel (but really a remake). UGH! However, in terms of a night out, like you said there have been worse. I didn't mind watching Mary Elizabeth Winstead for a couple hours.
