Restoring a Chaplin poster
« on: November 11, 2016, 06:36:39 PM »
Another poster being brought back to life.

Bristol, UK archivist and restorer, Alicia Garcia working on a 1940RR poster for Charlie Chaplin's comedy short, originally titled A Night Out (1915):

I found that EMP sold one copy of this poster, back in Dec. of 2011, for $250.00

Seems like the restoration would cost at least twice what the poster sells for, especially in that condition.

Thanks for the link, Jeff, very interesting.

I like the idea of having an original poster showing at the revival of an old film - I guess some of us collectors would be out in the lobby looking at the poster rather than inside watching the film!

Never heard of Alicia Garcia - she doesn't seem to have her own website so maybe works in academia somewhere?

Its refreshing to watch someone who cares about the original paper and treats the process of restoration/conservation with some degree of reverence -- especially after watching that Cloutier (sp?) video.

Hey Martin, I looked around and found Ms Garcia. She actually has her own conservation and restoration company in Bristol, that deals with works on paper. The company is called Aquatint.

Thanks for that - I obviously didn't look hard enough.

Always good to find another home-based restoration person as there are not that many around in the UK. Appears to offer a very professional service (nice website).
