I'd suggest becoming gay Charlie.
Or perhaps celibate , most gay men I know have nothing but respect for women.
But if you choose the former, head over to NSF in your thread where there's some nice images for your pleasure.

Tsk. I'm still around, just been very busy with real life recently. :)

I certainly don't live in a 'hole' and will resist  posting my views on Charlie's comment.

Why so serious?  You gals need to toughen your skin a bit... It's a sad world when a bit of instigative play is harped on like a mortal sin.

Respect has nothing to do with it... It was just a wink! Fuck... hitself

Not so much a puzzle; just most women have the right idea and are better at it than us men.
In my experience, most women stay well away from these poster forums etc.
One of the biggest collectors I know is a woman and she won't go near online forums for various reasons.

So there you go, Rosa, girl power  thumbup

In my very limited experience, aside from "girly" collectables such as handbags, shoes and twee china nick-nacks, the majority of collectors that I've encountered have been male. It might be something to do with the so-called "male brain" or the fact that conditions like autism, with its emphasis on order and so forth, tend to be more prevalent in men, but that's speculation.

Also, as a lady, I've been put off forums and fairs for the simple reason that these tend to be very male-dominated spaces. When I was working in another collecting-based industry as a specialist, people often thought that I was there as the wife of one of the specialists or as a secretary, so they'd talk down to me as though I knew nothing, which can be quite discouraging. The result is that male-spaces become even more male over time, and then all the men stand around wondering why there aren't any women!

Gents, please remember that if a woman seems sensitive or quick to anger, it's probably because you're the 1000th instance of light misogyny that she's had to deal with today and she may have reached her tipping point. The straw that broke the feminist's back, if you will.

Could it also be that, like any hobby, some are more male oriented and others more female?

It might sound like I am oversimplifying it, but perhaps the poster collecting hobby is one that a much higher % of guys are drawn to? And it isn't a good or bad thing -- it just is what it is, and how the demographic numbers fall?

Just me 2¢ thought.  ;)

A better title for this thread might be: "Why Dont More Women Collect Posters?"

Yeah, I agree.  I have several movie posters in my office and the men who stop by my office are much more interested.  Yesterday a new attorney (male) came by and said "oh cool, you've got all my favorite movies up!"  The women mostly exude a "meh" attitude.  But some show some appreciation.  A female client said "yeah, my brother loves 'Dune'" after checking out my sci-fi posters currently up.

But virtually everybody thinks about the movies when they see my posters.  I see them as independent works of art.

And when viewed that way, that might broaden the collecting demographic, as so many posters have that artistic appeal and allure to both men and women.

That, or the posters that you are hanging up appeal more strongly to the male demographic than female...

Archie is probably right. If you get that reaction it is more likely to be about the ones you have in your walls, rather than about posters per se. I think you might have a different reaction from the ladies if you swap what you have for these: Third Key, Motor madness, Tobor, Modern girls, Rocky, the candidate and Hustler (or any other Paul Newman). Those will work with any women.

You can thank me later ;)

Not trying to "work with" anyone. All of my female clients are 55-65 high-level managers not far from retirement. (And BTW retirement for anyone who joined the government before 1982 is ridiculously sweet.)

Never suggested you were Mel, simply pointing to some of your posters that might have a greater appeal to female viewers.
Incidentally, your website is not very ''mobile'' friendly  :)

I have to agree here, too, Julia. You have a great Tumblr page with not only beautiful still images, but many of the small gif/clips you have throughout, are fantastic, as well.  clap

Congratulations on that blog of yours 'Lost Silents'. Wonderfully easy to get drawn into - and I did!

As for women and specifically poster collecting, I wouldn't know as I'm rather more of a generalist myself. However, all the years I've spent perusing salerooms would point to there being a hefty preponderance of men in most collecting fields. Perhaps women are more selective in what they choose to collect and how much they amass, whereas men are more inclined to become competitively obsessive? Or perhaps there are simply thousands of men still living with their mothers who have shedloads of disposable income?

It's no uncommon that men live with their mothers in Italy.......also some might not afford to live alone but people are very judgemental.
